Today marks a significant milestone for #ContourGlobal as we proudly announce our entrance into the U.S. #renewables market—a key step in executing our new strategy. 🇺🇸 ⚡ We are acquiring two #solarPV ☀️ assets in South Carolina, totaling 151 MWdc, in advanced development stage and with long-term PPAs in place. This achievement reflects the dedication of our #BusinessDevelopment team, our partner Sun Tribe, and all those who contributed to this transaction. This project expands our U.S. presence, where we already manage over 1.2 GW of thermal installed capacity, and also reinforces our commitment to growing in renewables while ensuring a sustainable transition for our thermal assets. Earlier this month, members of #ContourGlobal's senior management team visited Togo, Senegal, and Nigeria, reinforcing our roadmap for more #sustainable #PowerGeneration in #Africa. 🇹🇬 In #Togo, we advanced plans to expand on and make more sustainable our 100 MW Lomé power plant, supporting the country's electrification goals. 🇸🇳 In #Senegal, we are progressing our plans to converting the Cap des Biches plant to natural gas, a pivotal step in the sustainable transition of our thermal fleet. 🇳🇬 In #Nigeria, we held insightful meetings with the staff of the Ikeja and Benin plants, the two co-generation facilities we operate in the premises of our partner, the Nigerian Bottling Company Plc - the franchise of the Coca-Cola Hellenic. Last month, we proudly celebrated with industry stakeholders the 10th anniversary of our #wind operations in #Peru, marking the first decade of large-scale wind power in the country.   During a lively debate on the future of #renewableenergy, we discussed Peru’s excellent natural resources, which hold significant growth potential, as well as the local challenges that are delaying #investments.   In this regard, it’s particularly important that the Full Congress discusses and approves changes to Law 28832 to enable the further development of #wind and #solar projects. As OSINERGMIN has pointed out, Bill 4565—already approved by the Energy and Mines Commission and which proposes these changes—is crucial for lowering electricity costs for Peruvian families. Our management team recently visited the #Majadas concentrated solar power (#CSP) plant in #Spain. This is just one of our five 50 MW CSP facilities located in the country’s southwestern regions.    CSP is a technological marvel that harnesses #solar radiation to heat a transfer fluid, which then exchanges heat with water to create steam and drive a turbine to produce #electricity. This unique technology has significant potential to contribute to #gridstability by providing stable solar energy, even when there are intermittent sunlight conditions during the day or immediately after sunset, due to the thermal inertia capability that allows to gradually release heat.    However, despite the high availability and readiness to generate stable clean power, these plants sometimes face constraints on injecting electricity into the Spanish grid due to network congestion and curtailments. Regulatory conditions for these plants to provide their maximum value to the system need to be adjusted and we are ready to invest to keep maximizing their contribution.    At #ContourGlobal, we’re proud of our expertise in managing and operating advanced CSP systems. This technology, complementing solar PV, is an essential component of a reliable, renewable-powered future.

This week, we marked 10 years of #wind power generation in #Austria with our valued partners, suppliers, landowners, regulators, institutions, sector associations, financiers, and renewable energy peers.   🇦🇹 Austria has set an ambitious target of adding 10 TWh of new wind energy by 2030, and we’re proud to support this goal through ongoing #repowering projects and new development plans. Currently, #ContourGlobal operates 162 MW across seven Austrian wind farms. Recent upgrades at four of these sites have increased our annual generation by 66% and reduced the number of turbines by nearly 20%, minimizing environmental and visual impacts. As we continue repowering our remaining wind farms, we expect to more than double our annual wind energy production. In addition, we have 1 GW development pipeline that will allow us to further expand our footprint in Austria and help the country achieve its #renewable energy goals. Last week, our #EnergyManagement and #Commercial team proudly participated in #RESource2024, Europe’s premier forum for Corporate Renewable Energy Purchases, held in #Amsterdam. This event brought together buyers, sellers, policymakers, and service providers to explore the latest trends in clean energy procurement. Since its inception in 2017, RE-Source Platform has been a cornerstone for fostering industry collaboration, covering crucial topics including #cleanenergy #procurement trends, evolving #regulations, and #riskmanagement strategies. This year’s event was particularly significant, coming on the heels of what it seems to be a new record-breaking year for renewable electricity signed through power purchase agreements (#PPAs).   During a panel with industry leaders from Amazon Web Services (AWS) , Baringa, Deloitte, WattTime.org, and Meta, our Chief Commercial Officer, Javier Vaquerizo, contributed to a lively discussion on #carbonmatching strategies and the anticipated effects of emerging standards and guidelines for #carbonaccounting on the #renewablePPA market. At #ContourGlobal, we remain dedicated to working with key stakeholders to develop innovative renewable supply solutions, enabling corporate buyers to enhance their decarbonization efforts with more transparent and reliable carbon footprint measurements.

Today at Enlit Europe 2024, we’re exploring the next generation of renewables—not as science fiction, but as scaling up the proven technologies that are already available to get us to 2030 and then to 2050. In discussions with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), alongside innovators like Minesto, in maritime tidal generation, and Gazelle Wind Power Limited in floating offshore platforms, as well as infrastructure players such as Metlen Energy & Metals, the conversation has been about much more than technology. While evolution in size and capability is crucial, the real challenge lies in balancing mature technology with cost competitiveness.
