Two weeks ago, Riverside resident Aurelli's husband was in Pasadena for work. The same area is now a wasteland charred by fast-spreading fires. “He couldn’t believe it was all gone now,” she said. This is the story for many in and around Los Angeles, where firefighters are working around the clock to contain several wildfires. The fires have burned more than 60 square miles, demolishing 12,000 structures and taking at least 25 lives. The return of high winds in Los Angeles is making wildfire containment efforts harder — gusts spread fire quickly and keep planes and helicopters from responding. Convoy of Hope team members are on the ground in the area. This weekend, we partnered with a local church to deliver water, food, and hygiene supplies to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department to assist first responders who have been working tirelessly since the fires began. In places like Pasadena, the smell of char and smoke permeates the air. Here in front of the Pasadena Jewish Temple and Center, only chimneys, filing cabinets, littered paper, and ashes remain. Rich and his son Rad, center, lost their home. Rich had lived there for 30 years and wanted to leave his home for his kids. "All I left them was homeless," he said.
