  • Dr Türkay Salim Nefes (Spanish National Research Council 🇪🇸) visited the Istanbul Technical University 🇹🇷 to carry out a COST Action #COREnet funded Short-Term Scientific Mission (STSM) on Turkish Jews’ perceptions of other non-Muslim #minorities and #migrants. The aim of this STSM was to develop a social scientific understanding of how non-Muslim minorities in Turkey 🇹🇷 - specifically Greeks and Jews - perceive the recent migration of Muslims, particularly Afghans 🇦🇫 and Syrians 🇸🇾 Dr. Nefes will design a new study on these minorities’ views. The activities implemented during the scientific mission were vital in preparing this research. STSM will also help to launch this important study, addressing a significant research gap. According to Dr. Nefes, this STSM also provided a valuable opportunity to advance scholarship on migration and minority studies 🧳 Read more about this STSM on the COREnet website (link to the article is in the comments section).

  • #COREnet Working Group 3 met in Tilburg 🇳🇱 for the final Reflective Café! Meeting was organized in cooperation with Tilburg University 🇳🇱 and a local, formerly faith-based center for informal social support mainly to migrants (MST Keeping People in Focus). The aim was to identify good practices and challenges faced by #professionals who work with religiously diverse #migrantcommunities stretching from Ukraine to the Middle East and Africa. Participants shared their experiences with the services they provide such as immediate humanitarian assistance (food and shelter), language courses and legal support. They also discussed innovative practices and challenges they face when working with religiously diverse migrants communities. Our researchers are currently working on the outcomes of all the Reflective Cafés held in Oslo 🇳🇴, Zagreb 🇭🇷, Rome 🇮🇹 and Tilburg 🇳🇱. Key findings on good practices and challenges faced by professionals working with religiously diverse migrant communities are expected in the next calendar year. Read more about the meeting on the COREnet website (link to the article is in the comments section).
