About us
The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) is a nonpartisan, nationwide, nonprofit organization of public officials who head departments of elementary and secondary education in the states, the District of Columbia, the Department of Defense Education Activity, and five U.S. extra-state jurisdictions. CCSSO provides leadership, advocacy, and technical assistance on major educational issues. The Council seeks member consensus on major educational issues and expresses their views to civic and professional organizations, federal agencies, Congress, and the public.

#StatesLeading: CCSSO hosted its 2024 Annual Policy Forum earlier this week in Phoenix, AZ! We welcomed leaders from 48 states and territories. Conference highlights included sessions on improving student outcomes in math, supporting a strong educator workforce & leveraging artificial intelligence technologies. Arizona Superintendent Tom Horne welcomed state leaders and 2024 National Teacher of the Year Missy Testerman delivered a keynote. CCSSO CEO Carissa Moffat Miller interviewed Shalinee Sharma, author of Math Mind: The Simple Path to Loving Math, and state chiefs shared math progress underway.
