About us
CRIRSCO, which was formed in 1994 under the auspices of the Council of Mining and Metallurgical Institutes (CMMI), is a grouping of representatives of organisations that are responsible for developing mineral reporting codes and guidelines in Australasia (JORC), Brazil (CBRR), Canada (CIM), Chile (National Committee), Colombia (CCRR), Europe (PERC), India (NACRI), Indonesia (KOMBERS _ KCMI), Kazakhstan (KAZRC), Mongolia (MPIGM), Russia (NAEN), South Africa (SAMREC), Turkey (UMREK) and the USA (SME). The combined value of mining companies listed on the stock exchanges of these countries accounts for more than 80% of the listed capital of the mining industry. The international initiative to standardise market-related reporting definitions for mineral resources and mineral reserves had its start at the 15th CMMI Congress at Sun City, South Africa in 1994. The mineral definitions working group (later called CRIRSCO) was formed after a meeting at that Congress, and was made up of representatives from the countries listed above (except for Chile, which joined later), with the primary objective of developing a set of international standard definitions for the reporting of mineral resources and mineral reserves.

Ethical business practices that aim to prevent corruption are at the heart of ICMM’s membership requirements and the work we do with organisations like CRIRSCO CRIRSCO, Chaired by Garth Kirkham, is a volunteer organisation that promotes a high standard of reporting of mineral deposit estimates during the exploration phase of any project. If companies don’t report reserves in a standardised way, stakeholders cannot accurately assess the risks associated with a project. Transparent disclosure of this data also helps to prevent corruption and fraud at development at this early stage. Remembering the legend.
Georges Verly gave a wonderful presentation during today's lunch at Mineral Resources and Mineral Reserves to shine a light on Harry M. Parker. On starting his career, Harry said, "I was given two No. 2 pencils and a writing pad. The second day I was given a timesheet; I wised up quickly that I was expected to find a job to charge." He went on to do 483 projects over four decades. #MRMR2024 #minerallegend

Minerals reporting is needed for both government and industry, but with slightly different objectives. The EU #CRMA stipulates use of #UNFC in national reporting. Learn more about why we need both #UNFC and #CRIRSCO family reporting like #PERCstandard and how they interact. Presented by Ed Sides, Mark Burnett, Alastair Moyes and David Dingemans (EurGeol) at the #MRMR2024 conference in Vancouver. Please see further details and registration link below. The collaboration between the Committee for Mineral Reserves International Reporting Standards (CRIRSCO) and the United Nations Framework Classification for Resources (UNFC) has resulted in the release of the CRIRSCO Template to UNFC Bridging Document, accompanied by a Guidance Note. Dario Liguti, Director of the Sustainable Energy Division at UNECE, stated: "UNFC aims at integrating the economic, social and environmental dimensions in sustainable resource management, supporting the efforts of this industry to align with the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement. The release of the updated CRIRSCO Template to UNFC Bridging Document is a testament to our commitment to enhancing transparency and consistency in mineral project reporting" Garth Kirkham, Chairperson for CRIRSCO, added, "We believe that this document, along with the accompanying Guidance Note, will provide invaluable guidance to stakeholders involved in mineral resource management, offering transparency and consistency globally." The Bridging Document and Guidance Note clarify the relationship between the CRIRSCO Template and UNFC, emphasizing their complementary nature. Approved by UNECE’s Expert Group on Resource Management (EGRM), this updated version marks a step forward in enhancing transparency and consistency in mineral project reporting. The accompanying Guidance Note offers detailed insights into the usage of the bridging document and provides a more unified approach to mineral project reporting standards. 📢 Accurate mineral reporting and classification in the global #mining industry will be simplified thanks to the harmonization of key international standards in #mineral reporting methodologies and classifications: the Committee for Mineral Reserves International Reporting Standards (CRIRSCO) Template, and the United Nations Framework Classification for Resources (UNFC). The CRIRSCO Template is the internationally accepted standard for financial reporting of publicly listed mining companies, while the UNFC is a globally applicable tool for the assessment and management by governments and other actors of all #energy and mineral resources, developed at United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. The newly released CRIRSCO Template to UNFC Bridging Document, accompanied by a comprehensive Guidance Note, marks a significant milestone in harmonizing these two systems. Both documents aim to provide a comprehensive guidance for mineral reporting and classification, and to facilitate a nuanced understanding of how to align CRIRSCO estimates with UNFC classifications, ensuring seamless integration between CRIRSCO-aligned codes and standards and UNFC. "UNFC aims at integrating the economic, social and #environmental dimensions in #sustainable #resourcemanagement, supporting the efforts of this industry to align with the #SustainableDevelopmentGoals and the #ParisAgreement. The release of the updated CRIRSCO Template to UNFC Bridging Document is a testament to our commitment to enhancing transparency and consistency in mineral project reporting," explained Dario Liguti, Director of the Sustainable Energy Division at UNECE. Garth Kirkham, Chairperson for CRIRSCO noted: "We believe that this document, along with the accompanying Guidance Note, will provide invaluable guidance to stakeholders involved in mineral resource management providing transparency and consistency, globally."
