We are thrilled to announce that Stephanie Bonney, PhD has joined our research faculty, bringing with her an exceptional body of research focused on the intricate relationship between brain vasculature and neurodegenerative diseases. Dr. Bonney’s work delves deeply into the roles of perivascular cells in small vessel disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and related neurovascular conditions, with a particular focus on perivascular fibroblasts. Dr. Bonney’s innovative approach to understanding these understudied cells has already contributed significantly to our understanding of vascular stability and its impact on brain health. Her ongoing research has the potential to shape new therapeutic avenues for devastating conditions such as cerebral amyloid angiopathy and dementia. Her return to CU is a homecoming of sorts, as she began her journey into this field during her graduate studies here. Dr. Bonney’s enthusiasm for collaboration is evident in her plans to work closely with others in our department whose expertise will complement her investigations into calcium signaling, immune interactions, and vascular health. Congratulations to Dr. Roland Flores on his recent re-election to a 2nd term as President of the Colorado Medical Board. The Board was instituted as part of the Medical Practice Act to regulate and control the practice of medicine in Colorado. As President, Dr. Flores leads the governor appointed 17 member board in the regulatory practice of physicians, physician assistants, and anesthesiologist assistants. Not only does Dr. Flores make an impact locally in Colorado, he is equally active abroad developing anesthesia care capacity internationally through our Global Anesthesiology Health Program. Professor Mark Chandler, MD. Denver Health is Colorado’s primary “safety net” institution providing billions in care for the uninsured.
