"There are many ways to help that don’t involve giving money. You can call 311 and an outreach team will be dispatched to help the homeless person receive services. "I would recommend Paul’s Place (a drop in center and safe haven) to get help. Paul’s Place is located at 114 West 14th Street, between 6th and 7th Avenues." - Jin Kim, CUCS Social Worker, Schermerhorn Permanent Supportive Housing Program This December, please think about how you can make a difference and support the critical work of CUCS for all New Yorkers. "We are all human, which allows room for us all to be vulnerable. It’s in that moment of another’s vulnerability that we must consider others a little more. Sometimes that “grand gesture” can simply be a warm smile. I say this because no matter how tough things may get, the acknowledgement in a smile says volumes." - Nueresha Figaro, CUCS Special Assistant/Office Manager, The Sands Permanent Supportive Housing Program This December, please think about how you can make a difference and support the critical work of CUCS for all New Yorkers. Make a Difference today: https://bit.ly/MDD24L "This Make a Difference December, I challenge you to smile and make eye contact. So many of our homeless neighbors are made to feel invisible by the bustling city. Whether they are riding the bus besides you or sitting along the street hoping for a few dollars to cover a meal, the lack of humanity they sometimes feel can be jarring. This month, I challenge you to smile. This month, I challenge you to make eye contact as you pass by. Even if you don’t have change to spare, or the time to accompany them for a quick bite -- take a minute to smile, look them in the eyes, and explain yourself. Have some time? Ask them how they are. Have more time? Ask if they want to share their story. This December, I challenge you to bring back the humanity." This December, please think about how you can make a difference and support the critical work of CUCS for all New Yorkers. https://bit.ly/MDD24L #cucsnyc #supportivehousing #homelessnyc #makeadifferencedecember
