Welcome to Tallgrass Institute! The team from First Peoples Worldwide at CU Boulder have launched this Center for Indigenous Economic Stewardship to continue and expand on the work and projects developed at University of Colorado since 2018. “While our name and brand has changed, our role remains the same: connecting Indigenous Peoples’ perspectives, solutions, and leadership with investors and the private sector. We see this as a critical moment to support the growing ecosystem of Indigenous Peoples’ economic power through programming that simultaneously builds investor knowledge and action to forward Indigenous Peoples’ priorities.” – Kate R. Finn, Founder & Executive Director of Tallgrass Institute Through targeted research, training, investor networks, and corporate and international engagement, Tallgrass Institute forwards Indigenous solutions to market challenges and macro-economic issues by leading with Indigenous Peoples’ self-determination and fostering equitable partnerships and practices. We aim to redefine the private sector’s role as one that respects Indigenous Peoples’ rights, lands, and economic priorities. “While the world scrambles to find outside solutions to the #ClimateCrisis, we cannot afford a collapse of the integral, ecologically augmenting work of Indigenous Peoples worldwide. Indigenous Peoples’ languages, which catalyze intergenerational, climate-positive land stewardship, must be supported and sustained,” writes Marcus Briggs-Cloud, Ph.D. (Maskoke), in this article for our most recent #CSQ 48-4: “Regaining Balance at the Intersection of #IndigenousLanguages and #ClimateChange.” #IndigenousClimateSolutions #IndigenousRights https://lnkd.in/eKsPmX2j

With the removal of four dams on the Klamath River, Indigenous communities have achieved a hard-fought, 20-year victory, restoring salmon habitats and allowing the river to heal. Despite unfounded claims linking dam removals to wildfires, the truth is that Indigenous Traditional Ecological Knowledge, including practices like cultural burns, is a proven solution for preventing catastrophic fires and maintaining ecosystem balance. These practices, now recognized even by wildfire management agencies, demonstrate the value of #IndigenousStewardship in building resilient landscapes. https://lnkd.in/eR38yZwE
