Let's talk about 2D drawing coordination. Although BIM is becoming more standard on projects over 100M, the 3D model is not perfect. You can use products such as Revizto for 3D clash coordination and cmBuilder.io for 4D planning, but there is still a gap that needs to be closed - 2D coordination of drawings. Why is 2D drawing coordinations still important in the age of BIM and VDC? The main reason is that Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) such governmental or non-governmental entities responsible for enforcing building codes, fire codes, etc still use 2D drawings. So even if you have a 3D workflow, 3D clash detection, 3D coordination; at some point you need to produce 2D drawings. And those drawings are never perfect on the first iteration, thus requiring 2D coordination. 2D coordination is something that BIM and VDC teams often overlook. They focus most of their attention on the 3D and assume that by the time they produce the drawings it would be a minor adjustment and importing cutsheets from the 3D model. It is not! There is another workflow that is required to coordinate, update, and improve the quality of 2D drawings. For projects under 100M where a "good" BIM model is often not available due to practicality and cost, 2D coordination is the name of the game. After taking a look at several solutions on the market, I believe that Current Sets does the best job at solving this overlooked problem in the industry. They provide both the software for teams to use as well as an in-house service for coordinating drawings. Often times venture based companies shy away from providing services or consulting. Current Sets is not venture backed. Since they have private investors (friends and family), they don't need to have an aggressive growth strategy. They don't need to have an exit. They just need to provide a product and service that they customers want to use. Again, this is not a sponsored post. I met Bo Rhyne and his team in 2023 and have been impressed with the progression of their product and company since then. If you are in the market for improving the coordination of your 2D drawings, consider Current Sets. You should always do your own research before purchasing software but this is a good product to take a look at. #leanconstruction

Proactively improve your coordination with Current Sets. Our customers have saved tens of millions of dollars in avoided rework and waste.

One of our repeat customers updated us on a project we reviewed for them last year: - they're now 40% of the way through the project - at ~100 RFI's, and expecting 150 total - for this type of multifamily project, they typically see 400+ RFIs 0 RFIs isn't the goal, but it's refreshing to see how our reviews are helping builders reduce rework and waste and focus on building projects. This is what we set out to do.

We're excited to do another webinar on March 11th. We've made a lot of updates to our process over the past few months and want to show the updates and demonstrate how our platform is helping groups around the country understand and improve their coordination to reduce construction suprises.

  • This year we’ve been maintaining our highest volume of reviews, while increasing our review expertise, and rolling out new automations. We’re trying to make coordination easily accessible and have made great strides this year. We have some more updates coming soon that will continue to push our review process forward. Stay tuned!

This week, We did a turnover for a project that had just started construction. This isn’t our normal time that we engage but they felt based on projects we had done for them that we would still save them time / money on the remaining scope. They had us review the work that had been done already as well. As we were going through our findings there were several that they said they spent months coordinating and waiting for updated drawings. This was a great view into how much wasted time we can help avoid for site teams.

  • We had one of our favorite types of call this morning where a new customer tells us that what we do is a "no brainer". That's been our goal since the beginning. Continually drive more value in our reviews and automations and push for competitive pricing so that we become that "no brainer" second set of eyes for people.

  • If you’re building a ground up construction project Current Sets is a competitive priced lever you can pull to improve your coordination and design quality before starting construction. We’ve helped several hundred projects do this over the past 4 years while continually improving our process. Email your drawings to drawings@currentsets.com to get started. You’ll get a quote back within a day and our typical delivery is 2-3 weeks.

  • There are different reasons why an architect, owner, or contractor would hire us. Andrew started his career working his way up to a PM in the field and Bo was a design engineer on site. With that field mentality, when we started Current Sets in 2020 we primarily worked with contractors, which we still do today along with more and more owners. We also get asked about architects hiring us directly to ensure plan coordination, and we're starting to see more of it. A few weeks ago, an architect reached out after seeing the review we performed for an owner, and we've now done several peer reviews for them. Regardless of who brings us onto a project, we're excited to help reduce wasted time, materials, and money in the field... that's always been our goal.
