About us
Cutting Underwater Technologies has more than 40 years’ experience in providing both “off the shelf” and “bespoke” diamond wire-cutting solutions to the Oil & Gas, Nuclear, Renewables and Decommissioning Industries globally. From our bases in Aberdeen, UAE and Singapore, the CUT Group has successfully performed more than 7,000 cuts, including, involvement in the removal of 138 platforms and 213 pipelines, not to mention an array of other targets as diverse as multi-strings, chains, drill strings, risers, monopile’s, guideposts, pipes and shipwrecks! The CUT Group offers both “off the shelf” and “bespoke” diamond wire cutting solutions. In addition to our existing fleet of more than 180 diamond wire tools ranging from 5.5” to 288” cutting capacity CUT regularly provides clients with bespoke solutions. Our diamond wire cutting machines are not constrained by water depth. They can be surface powered down to 200m. Below 200m, our deepest cut to date being more than 2,745m in the Gulf of Mexico, DWCM’s are powered by WROV either via “hot stabs” or 6m long umbilical. In the nuclear sector we have gained valuable experience of using both our diamond wire cutting machines and our plasma cutting machines on a variety of targets. The Plasma Machines can also be set up to incorporate a dedicated clamping system to fix onto and support the piece which will be cut free.

CUT was delighted to welcome the “Ambassador of Italy to the United Kingdom”, Inigo Lambertini, to our Aberdeen HQ. Inigo awarded the honour "Stella al merito del lavoro" to our General Manager of Cutting Underwater Technologies (CUT), Tiziana Marras. The Ambassador was accompanied by Consul General Veronica Ferrucci, along with representatives of Ithaca Energy and Saipem. It was a valuable opportunity to strengthen Italy-UK cooperation in energy and innovation. CUT is proud of our Italian origins, and our long history in Scotland. We operate all over the world, completing subsea cutting projects on the most challenging of targets, in the most testing conditions. Our track record is impeccable, and CUT are currently preparing for an exceptionally busy 2025. Well done to Tiziana. #Italy #Scotland #oilandgasindustry

CUT was pleased to attend the 7th Annual Aberdeen – Perth WA Gateway event in association with the Government of Western Australia, at Norwood Hall, Aberdeen today. In the last few years CUT have identified Australia as an area with high potential for external cutting, and to date we have been very successful in winning cutting projects. Examples include: · 16 cuts of 3850 mm diameter Mid Water Arches – MEFF project - Australia · Cutting of 5450mm diameter Disconnectable Single Point Mooring (DSPM) - Woolybutt Project - Australia · 4 cuts of 6000mm diameter - Griffin Project – RTM & Piles Cutting - Largest vertical cuts ever completed – Australia · Chain cutting – Enfield Project - Australia We have also been awarded a major project for summer 25, Western Australia. CUT have also completed numerous projects in Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, Thailand and other SE Asia regions. CUT will attend the EXA Event in Perth in March 25, and will meet with existing clients and new companies. The key objectives will be to raise awareness of CUT as the global experts for external cutting, and inform the market of the following: • CUT can support Australia projects from our bases in Singapore and UK • CUT have off the shelf machines to cut targets from 3” to 315” diameter. • CUT have completed numerous Australia projects • ONLY CUT can offer step / castellated cut services. CUT have completed more cuts, bigger cuts, more projects and deeper cuts than anyone else. We have the largest range of “off the shelf” machines in the world, capable of cutting any target from 3” to 315” (8m) diameter. CUT are globally recognised as the experts in our field. CUT have been operating globally for decades. Our core markets are the North Sea, Gulf of Mexico, west Africa, Black Sea, Australia and Singapore/Malaysia. CUT are finalists for the Northern Star Business Awards 2025 in the "Going Global" section. This reflects our ambition for and achievements in taking CUT to every corner of the world. CUT have a partner in Singapore, Advanced Marine and have experienced personnel and a full range of equipment (cutting machines, HPUs, umbilical spoolers, spares, diamond wires) at this base. This base has supported projects offshore Australia previously. In 2024 a publication by the Government of Western Australia Department of Energy highlighted actions required to minimise risks while conducting offshore platform removals. Actions required included “use castellated cut designs where a possibility of rotation (turning moment) of the load exists”. CUT have exclusive use of a patent for castellated/step cuts. Therefore, we are the only diamond wire cutting specialist who can provide the castellated/step cut service mentioned. #APG2025 #GranitePR #decommissioning #energytransition #scotlandisnow #westernaustralia #EXA2025

PROJECT AWARD: CUT start the New Year with a project award from another NEW client. CUT will use our 72” machine, HPU and umbilical spooler to complete the diamond wire cutting of external piles on a number of offshore jackets in the UK Southern North Sea in 2025. This project was awarded due to the low height of our machine (590mm), allowing easy access above the mudmat. Our track record with this machine was also a major factor. The cutting success rate of CUT is the best in the market, and our unique diamond wire ensures the fastest cutting times possible. In addition, there is the option to complete “step-cuts” with our 72” machine. This service is only available from CUT, with patents in place to ensure exclusivity. This award represents a great start to 2025. #decommissioning #oilandgasindustry

CUT finish the year with a number of new Diamond Wire Cutting Project Awards. We are pleased to welcome a new client, and will complete diamond wire cutting of jacket piles in the North Sea UK sector using our 40” machine. This machine is only 560kgs in air, 40-50kgs in water, small dimensions, and very easily manoeuvrable. Another award is for an offshore Western Australia project, where we will complete cutting of various targets to allow platform removal. This award highlights the global reach of CUT, and in particular the need for proven expertise for this particular project. This week we were also awarded a pile cutting project in Singapore, mobilising quickly to support our valued client. Lastly, we mobilised today for pipeline cutting in the Black Sea (Turkey) with our 30” machine. CUT have completed 43 projects this year, a record. Our clients come to us as we are the global experts in our field. We have never failed to complete all cuts required on a project, whether that is 5” mooring chains or 6m diameter riser turret moorings. The vast experience of our Operators and the lessons learned during our +40 year history is invaluable and a vital part of the CUT success story. We have 15 projects awarded for 2025 already, and expect to double that in the next 2 months. From everyone at CUT and our partner in Singapore (Advanced Marine), we wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and we look forward to supporting you in 2025. #decommissioning #oilandgasindustry #subseacutting
