Why choose CW PREP? 🤔 We spoke to several of the amazing alumni from our program currently working for the Kentucky Department for Community Based Services (DCBS) and had them share their thoughts on how CW PREP prepared them for their careers, and what advice they'd give to students considering the program for themselves! “I would say to talk to your peers, talk to the people involved in the program, and get their experiences. It’s a great program to be involved in and if you have any interest in child welfare it’s definitely worth it.” - Kassidy Riviello Thanks for sharing Kassidy! 😊 Students who successfully complete the CW PREP program not only receive specialized training in child welfare, but priority consideration for employment with DCBS upon graduation. That combined with our peer-mentor initiative and early-career support means you're set up for success in school and beyond. 💫 Are you interested in learning more? Laying foundations since ‘96 💪 Here’s what CW PREP (previously known as PCWCP) alum Andrea Preston, ‘22, wants to pass along to new child welfare workers: “The advice I would give to someone that is about to enter the child welfare field is to take lots of notes/document everything. If you don’t document it, then it didn’t happen!” Are you writing that down? ✏️ Take our advice and get involved with CW PREP – you'll get access to a wide network of alumni at DCBS and beyond who are using their skills to brighten the futures of kids and families every day. 💡 Learn more at www.childwelfareprep.com

CW PREP alum Taylor Dowdy-Hazlet is using her experience to make a difference. 💜 Now an Assistant Professor at the University of Kentucky College of Social Work, Taylor is using her wealth of experience in #childwelfare to research ways to improve the foster care system and create positive outcomes for children everywhere. “I really saw the holes in the child welfare system and knew that I wanted to make a bigger impact,” Dowdy-Hazlett said. “I had a lot of questions and I wanted to answer those questions. That’s when I decided to pursue my PhD and now, I’m doing research.” Taylor's #CWPREPStory is a great example of how you can achieve real impact by starting your career in child welfare! Where in the world is CW PREP? 🌍🤔 Alyssa Fisk from WKU Social Work is spending her summer in Senegal, West Africa in partnership with Joy Ridge, a local non-profit dedicated to funding and supporting orphanages. Here's what Alyssa had to say about her experience. "I really enjoyed the organization we were able to do community service for. During our time we were able to play with the kids and give them the love that every child needs! Through several cultural experiences and working closely with others in Senegal I was able to gain insights and knowledge that I will take with me for the rest of my career. I am very grateful for this opportunity and experiences I have gained!" Thanks for sharing your #CWPREPStory with us Alyssa! ☀️ We're so proud of you for using your summer to make a difference. Are you a current (or former!) student with your own story to share? We want to celebrate you! The community and support you receive from CW PREP can take you far. How far? Just ask one of our amazing team members Erin Mayhorn, who recently earned her Doctorate of Social Work at UK! 🎓 Erin's child welfare journey started during her time at Morehead earning her undergraduate degree. There she joined CW PREP (Formerly PCWCP) and went to work for the cabinet. Because of her passion for child welfare, Mayhorn, a first-generation college student, was able to earn three degrees all without any student loans! “I had all these ‘I never’ because I was from such a small town in Kentucky. I said I would never go to UK because it was too big. I said I would never do child welfare or pursue my Masters or Doctorate. It’s really nice to be able to prove myself wrong. I said I would never but here I am because of the support and community that I’ve been able to have through child welfare. It’s a special place and I’m really honored that I was able to get to this position.” We're so proud of you Erin! Thanks for sharing your CW PREP story with us. 💜 You can read more about Erin and her journey at the link below. https://bit.ly/3VrKvDS
