PLA is more than credits.... it's value Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) is a game-changer for adults returning to school. It’s a way for colleges and universities to formally recognize the skills and knowledge adults have gained outside the classroom—through work, volunteering, or just life. By awarding academic credit for that experience, it sends a powerful message: “what you’ve learned in the real world has genuine value at our institution.” PLA bridges the gap between theory and practice, proving that life experience is meaningful learning. For adults who might feel nervous about going back to school, this recognition can be a huge confidence boost. It helps ease the fear of not fitting in and replaces it with a sense of belonging and capability. Acknowledging what students already know doesn’t just validate their abilities—it shows they’ve already been learning at a college level. That kind of early affirmation creates momentum, helping students move faster toward their degrees and feel more committed to their goals. It’s amazing what a little recognition can do. #alllearningmatters #adultstudents #PLA #mentalhealth #studentsuccess

Intentionality matters. Many high school students are very busy and involved in too many activities, pulling them in too many directions. It is not beneficial just to be busy. It's important for teens to engage in activities with intention and purpose. We invite you to consider having your teen sign up for an Activities Audit with one of our expert consultants at College Bound Advising. Fresh from a conference where Eydie and her team heard from college admissions counselors about what they are and are not looking for in an applicant's activity list, they will work together with your teen to assess, prioritize, and write about their activities. Students will also receive guidance on tracking and organizing their activities so they are ready to complete the Common App when it opens on August 1, 2024. With our guidance, they can create a well-rounded, impactful, and intentional representation of their extracurriculars!
