🔍 Protecting Digital Spaces: A Call to Influence with Integrity 🔍 Influencers and creators are uniquely positioned to drive positive change—but they’re also on the frontlines of misinformation attacks. Disinformation doesn’t just impact one voice; it affects entire communities, particularly those historically left out of mainstream industry conversations. Recently, alongside Alliance for Securing Democracy (ASD), we hosted: Influencing with Integrity, a private event in Philadelphia, bringing together influencers, election officials, and policy leaders to unpack the complexities of disinformation as we head toward the 2024 elections. Together, we explored ways influencers can stand resilient against manipulation and lead with authenticity. What we discussed: 🛡️ How influencers can use their platforms to bridge gaps in media literacy and democratic engagement. 🌱 The power of diversity in shaping resilient, informed communities. 📢 Actionable strategies to safeguard against disinformation, focusing on transparency and integrity. Check out Tazin Khan's blog for event insights and practical steps on navigating disinformation, along with a downloadable guide for creators who want to make a difference. https://lnkd.in/eMKrQBwh

In 2019, Cyber Collective was launched by Tazin Khan to create spaces where people could learn about the impact of technology and how to protect themselves online within the context of their unique lived experiences. At the root of Cyber Collective's mission is solidarity. That's how I found Cyber Collective—like many others, I was seeking a space to better understand these complex issues as a woman in the tech industry, an online community builder, and as the oldest daughter on speed dial for any and all digital questions. I've since had the privilege to serve not only as a "fractional" executive, but a holistic co-leader bringing my lived experience to the table to honor a mission so close to my values. In our most vulnerable human moments, millions of search results won’t support you the way your family, friends, and communities do. Today, Cyber Collective, Tazin Khan, Rebecca Richard Muriam Fancy , our 50+ Cyber Collective Advocates and I are proud to introduce an initiative core to who we are and what we stand for: Internet Street Smarts. When we talk about "street smarts," we're talking about an instinct we all share. We know how to protect ourselves and those around us when something feels off. We look out for each other. Imagine if we took that same instinct and applied it to our digital lives. Our Internet Street Smarts program and course teaches online safety in the context of community and interconnectedness. We are all in relationship with one another, and our online lives are no different. Learn more about how WE built Internet Street Smarts. Cyber Collective, in partnership with Alliance for Securing Democracy at German Marshall Fund of the United States kicked off #CyberSecurityAwarenessMonth this week by convening creators, information manipulation experts, and election officials for a critical discussion. Trust plays a critical role in how we process the information we see, particularly important information around elections. Influencers and creators are community builders. They grow and nurture communities around trust. In their research, information manipulation experts from Alliance for Securing Democracy report on how foreign actors target creators to promote information that influences voters and therefore, the elections. We had information manipulation experts and PA election officials share their insights and experiences. We heard from the influencers what they’ve seen and what their concerns are. Through deep conversation, centered around our shared sense of responsibility to educate and protect our communities, we asked ourselves … what does it mean to influence with integrity? How can we help other creators and influencers communicate these issues to their followers, to ensure we are all able to vote confidently in the upcoming election? We’re turning our takeaways into a co-created resource to support all influencers, across the US and the internet can understand the impact of these issues and how to navigate them. Special thank you to our amazing partners, guests, speakers, vendors, and all advocates who actively empower their communities around these issues. Sign up for our newsletter so you don’t miss the resource when it drops. If you’re interested in partnering on an event like this, reach out to Tazin Khan and email us at hello@cybercollective.org ✨ Now back to Cyber Security Awareness Month 💚
