What do you know about Deep vein thrombosis–also known as a blood clot? Blood clots can be very serious (and can definitely ruin your holidays). These types of blood clots usually form in the leg, and typical symptoms can include: ● Pain in the leg (usually in the calf or thigh). ● Pain that gets worse when you walk. ● Swelling in one of your legs (especially the one that’s painful). ● Warmth around the impacted area. ● Skin that appears red or darkened compared to usual. The holidays are a time when families come together, when you see and catch up with loved ones over a lovely meal. But strokes can and do happen over the holidays. One easy acronym that can help you detect the signs of a stroke early. All you have to do is look for FAST. ● F - Face drooping ● A - Arm weakness ● S - Speech difficulty ● T - Time to call 911! When a stroke is treated quickly, patients typically enjoy a much better prognosis. Which means that FAST can save a life!
