We're fresh from Austin after attending the 89th Session of the Texas Legislature, where we advocated for three bills and other priorities to increase funding, resources, and the preservation of attainable/affordable housing in Dallas. We also spent yesterday building the walls of a home for a mother of two in Brenham, TX, as part of the annual #CapitolBuildDay. Thank you to our friends at Billd for volunteering at yesterday's Texas Capitol Build 2025 during the 89th session of the Texas Legislature! BILLD staff worked alongside Dallas Habitat, Austin Habitat for Humanity and 100 volunteers from all over the state to help build the walls of Lisa Crawford's home, currently under construction in Brenham, TX. Thanks to these volunteers, Lisa and her two children will soon have a home of their own. And another big shout out to BILLD for hosting Dallas and Austin Habitat for a fantastic dinner at ATX Cocina during our visit to Austin this week! #TXLege #HabitatVolunteers

This week, our CEO, Ashley Brundage and Bryan Tony, Executive Director of Dallas Housing Coalition met with lawmakers at their offices in Washngton, D.C. as part of Habitat for Humanity International’s #HabitatontheHill. We are asking for their support of Habitat’s local and federal solutions to invest in more affordable homes for working families and first time home buyers in our area. More than 450 advocates from 44 states, joined in the effort this week to advocate for: • Finalizing the fiscal year 2025 appropriations process and provide robust funding for housing and community development federal programs in the fiscal year 2026 budget. • Support of the Homeownership Supply Accelerator, Habitat’s innovative federal policy concept designed to rapidly increase construction and rehabilitation of affordable starter homes. • Ensure that Congress includes provisions that increase the supply of starter homes in any tax package.
