  • Award-Winning Creativity at the Dallas Zoo! This year at the Dallas Zoo, we’ve had so much to celebrate – from conservation wins to unforgettable moments with our community. And now, our creative work is making waves! Our projects earned incredible recognition at the AVA Digital Awards, where we received a 2024 Platinum Award for the “Adventure Awaits” Intro Video created for Zoo To Do 2023. We were also awarded a 2024 Gold Award for the Dallas Zoo Lights Promo Video in Video Production for Commercials – Amusements/Entertainment. Out of over 2,500 entries, these awards place us among the best, with only 5% achieving Platinum and 18% earning Gold. Our success continued with the American Advertising Awards, the largest advertising competition in the United States. The “Adventure Awaits” Invitation Suite earned Gold at the Dallas chapter level for Card, Invitation, and Announcement Campaigns and advanced to win Silver at the District 10 level. These accolades highlight creativity and excellence in advertising, with only the best work moving through local and district levels to gain national recognition. Congratulations to our Marketing & Communications team for crafting work that elevates our mission and leaves a lasting impact. #DallasZoo

  • Acupuncture for animals? Absolutely! Meet Adam, our 18-year-old perentie monitor, who receives special acupuncture treatments. Adam has entered his golden years with some age-related challenges, including arthritis. But thanks to our dedicated animal care team, he’s getting the extra attention he deserves to stay comfortable and active. Each month, Adam receives acupuncture treatments designed to ease his stiffness and improve his mobility. Tiny needles are strategically placed on specific points of his skin, offering targeted relief and helping him move with greater ease. He also receives advanced laser therapy, which further alleviates discomfort and enhances his overall well-being. At the Dallas Zoo, our commitment to care ensures that every animal receives the best possible quality of life throughout their entire lives. With these treatments, we're thrilled to see Adam thriving in his golden years! #dallaszoo #perentiemonitor

  • Have you heard about wood wool? Also known as excelsior, wood wool consists of long wood shavings cut from logs and is often used in packaging for items like bird baths or ceramic pots. It also makes an excellent enrichment item for our animals! Our playful otters love to explore and interact with the fluffy wood wool, which encourages natural behaviors such as foraging. Beyond its role in enrichment, wood wool provides essential nesting material during the colder winter months, creating a cozy and comfortable space for our animals to rest and stay warm. A huge thank you to American Excelsior Company for their generous donation that makes this enrichment possible! #dallaszoo #animalenrichment

Our Texas horned lizard hatchlings have officially made their way into the wild! After months of dedicated care and preparation, 116 of our little lizards joined forces with others from the Fort Worth Zoo and Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, totaling an incredible 285 lizards released into the Mason Mountain Wildlife Management Area. Some of the lizards were fitted with lightweight, flexible tags to help researchers and conservationists at Texas Parks & Wildlife monitor their journey for the next few weeks. Our Texas horned lizard conservation program is a collaborative effort with Texas Parks and Wildlife DepartmentRolling Plains Quail Research Ranch, and several of our dedicated zoo partners. #dallaszoo #texashornedlizard #conservationinaction #savingspecies
