We're excited to join Texan by Nature's Conservation Summit as a Bronze Level sponsor this year! The Summit, held earlier this week, brought together conservation and business leaders in Texas for impactful dialogue and collaboration. We were also thrilled to celebrate our conservation partner, the San Antonio Bay Partnership, for receiving the Conservation Wrangler Award at this year’s summit! The Dallas Zoo is proud to support and contribute to discussions on how conservation and business can work hand-in-hand for a sustainable future.

We recently collaborated with the Clonbeale Peatland Conservation Project in County Offaly in order to raise awareness for critical environmental initiatives. This peatland restoration project is being undertaken by the Tullamore Lions Club, spearheaded by member Michael Caroll. The project is working to bring the bog back to life, reducing carbon emissions, supporting biodiversity, and creating a sustainable space for the local community. Through thoughtful visuals and strategic content, we helped communicate their mission to a wider audience, further aided by a children’s book created by Tullamore Lions Club along with Dolores Keaveney to share this critical information with a younger audience - titled ‘The Lions, The bees, and The bogs’. If your organization has a story worth sharing, we’d love to help amplify your impact. #LionsCLub #CharityIreland #ClonbealePeatlandConservationProject

As conservation professionals, our goal is to scale up conservation practices nationwide. In order to do that, we need to ensure everyone has equitable access to and support for conservation programs. The reality is that historically underserved communities have faced and are currently facing many barriers to conservation technical assistance. Learn more about these barriers in the recently released “A Conservation Professionals’ Guide to Diverse, Equitable and Inclusive Conservation Delivery with Historically Underserved Producers and Communities.” www.swcs.org/DEIguidebook

"Conservation" is a really broad term... Here's what conservation means to our co-founder, Anna Wentsch: 🌱 The environmental factor: protecting existing habitat, improving it and ultimately connecting it so our native species can thrive in a healthy home. 🧍 The people factor: taking positive action, building connections and raising awareness. It doesn't need to be complex, and you don't need to be a big name out in the bush to get involved. For example, it could be as simple as picking up rubbish on your local beach so that the trash doesn't kill our seabirds. So, what does conservation mean to you?

The theme of this year's The National Association of Conservation Districts' Stewardship Week, "May the Forest Be with You, Always," emphasizes the vital role of forests in soil and water conservation. Forests are crucial for sustaining life on Earth— providing oxygen, storing carbon, and supporting biodiversity. They also protect soil and water resources, preventing erosion and purifying contaminants. In the face of environmental challenges, resilient forests are essential for a sustainable world. "May the Forest Be with You, Always" symbolizes NACD's commitment to responsible forest stewardship. During Stewardship Week, conservation districts nationwide engage in various activities to celebrate and promote forests. They educate communities through contests, workshops, and events, fostering a deeper understanding of the forest's importance. By inspiring action and emphasizing collective responsibility, Stewardship Week ensures the preservation of forests for future generations. Learn more at https://bit.ly/4dhMu4O.

Last month, at the 2024 Texan by Nature Conservation Summit, I had the absolute privilege of joining 300+ leaders in conservation, business, and communities who are catalyzing new ideas, partnerships, and creating the future of conservation. My head is still buzzing with all the amazing things I heard, people I met, and innovation happening across the state! 🔥🔥🔥 Here are some of the gems I'm taking into 2025. 💎Kids want and need to marvel at possums. Let kids fall in love with nature first. - Heather Kuhlken 💎It's great that you have data but think about how you are interpreting that: Make it simple, Make a commitment, Invest in people. - Joni Carswell 💎Change before you have to. - Karina Araujo 💎Focus on growing commitment, instead of driving compliance. - Edward Craner 💎We are building momentum to empower people. It's important to us to help people see how they can have an impact, no matter how small. - Alison Westphal 💎Change before you have to. You get to drive that change, and I think that's an exciting time for all of us. - Preston W. Smith 💎There’s no one-size-fits-all in conservation. - Mauricio Chavarria 💎My biggest mistake was looking down on others when they didn’t think what I thought was important, as important. It was a sense of arrogance that took me 2 or 3 years to overcome. - Edward Craner 💎We’re not asking you to change the world, we are asking you to try one thing differently. - Alison Westphal 💎I am the Chief Bay R.A.T (Removing Abandoned Traps, Removing Awful Trash, Rescuing Awesome Turtles). Bay RATS want to take action to protect the bay. - Allan Berger

🌿 Exciting News from the California Landscape Stewardship Network Retreat! 🌿 Recently, the League’s CEO, Darcie Goodman Collins, participated in a crucial retreat with the California Landscape Stewardship Network, collaborating with top environmental leaders to push for expansive ecosystem restoration across the state. The retreat focused on streamlining regulatory processes, called “cutting green tape,” by making regulation and approval processes more efficient and speedy. When great minds come together in the same place, magic happens by enhancing communication among key agencies. This pioneering approach fosters essential interagency cooperation and aligns with Gov. Newsom’s directive to expedite environmental restoration. Moments like these underscore the importance of leadership in environmental stewardship. We are proud of our ongoing commitment to fostering partnerships that lead to tangible solutions for California’s diverse landscapes. Ideas and lessons learned at the California Landscape Stewardship Network Retreat help build relationships between agencies and people to preserve and restore California’s natural beauty.
