"I just heard back from the hiring manager and would like to discuss the next steps. Do you have any free time later today or tomorrow?" I received this text from a recruiter a few months ago. I was in the interview process for an Analytics Manager role and went through 3 rounds of interviews at the moment. At this point, I was pretty confident and I knew there was one more round to go. I assumed this text meant to schedule the final interview and was pretty excited to get the text. However, it ended up being NOTHING like what I expected. "Hey Chris, we appreciated your time interviewing with us but we are deciding to move forward with other candidates." The call I thought would be an exciting one turned out to be a rejection. I am not going to lie, I didn't like it. When I hear the phrase I mentioned in the first sentence of my post, it's always been to schedule an interview. I've been seeing more situations like this where rejections might happen over the phone instead of an email. Maybe it's just my opinion, but I would've preferred an email with the OPTION to schedule a call to discuss possible feedback or to stay connected. People take rejections in different ways. I am someone who wants to answer to be straightforward and honest so we can just rip the band-aid off. Which option would you prefer: A) Rejection via email B) Rejection via phone (not knowing ahead of time it's a rejection call) C) Rejection via email and given the option to discuss over a phone call Let me know down in the comments what you think!

Anyone want to make a predictive forecasting model in Excel with me? In about an hour (6:30 pm EST), I will be going live on YouTube where I will make this model with you! In this situation, you are working for a healthcare company and are tasked with forecasting the next three years of revenue. The only problem is you only have one year of data to make these assumptions. We will create a predictive model, driven by several variables (types of revenue, utilization rates, number of employees aka customers, etc.), to show how much revenue we expect to make by the end of 2026. This was something I had planned for the future but because of yesterday's tech issues, I wanted to do another one to make up for it! The link is in the comments! The dataset will be in the video description. I hope to see you there! Feel free to also leave a comment with other projects you might be interested in!

Messaging recruiters on LinkedIn seems simple, yet it can be challenging when it comes to actually doing it. Being able to create a personalized message that actually gets noticed involves a combination of effort, attention to detail, and drawing eyes to your work. If you write a 4 paragraph essay to a recruiter, there's a close to zero percent chance they'll read it. If you write 1-2 sentences asking for a job, also a close to zero percent chance they'll answer. I have six different prompts you can use to send to recruiters, whether you are cold messaging, recently applied for a role, following up after a LinkedIn connection request, etc. These are loosely based on the messages I've sent to recruiters over the past couple of years. It's never a guarantee a recruiter will answer even with a perfect message, but I can guarantee your response rate will significantly increase! -------------------------------------- Is anyone interested in putting together a job-searching social group? I would love to have an area focused on job searching to help others in these situations. Feel free to comment below with your thoughts!

Using a combo of VLOOKUP and IFERROR was an instrumental part of my Excel learning journey. VLOOKUP is a commonly used lookup function but has one major problem: it can’t handle errors. Using IFERROR allows you to say what the value should be in a cell if it comes back as an error. In the images below, I show an example of how to use both and why. The good news is XLOOKUP can handle errors but it isn’t available on all versions of Excel. Anything you’d like to add on? Anything else you’d like me to show in Excel?

With so many chart options, it’s important to understand each chart and its purpose. I put together this Data Viz Essentials Chart Guide to help break down some of the more common charts out there! I always believe charts should be simple and efficient. Understand your audience to avoid creating certain visuals that may cause some confusion and take away from the purpose of the dashboard. Do you have any data visualization questions? Is creating data visuals your favorite or not-so-favorite part of being a data analyst?

If you’re trying to break into data, you should learn Excel. I understand we’ve used Excel in our lives but 99% of us haven’t had to use it past basic knowledge. Learning the basic/intermediate functions in Excel can be the perfect start to your data analytics learning journey! While I could make a ton more slides of functions, the ones below are what I’ve used the most in my daily data roles. What are some pros and cons of using Excel?
