Last week, we had an incredible panel discussion as part of our Future Frontiers Series in NYC hosted by Datalogz! It was an honor to host JoAnn Stonier (former CDO, Mastercard) and Guy Lehman (former CDO, Honeywell & Head of Data Enablement, Walmart) for a deep dive into the evolving role of the CDO. We covered critical topics like BI sprawl, the challenges of navigating 2025 as a CDO, and the future of analytics—with plenty of insights from leaders who have actually been in the trenches. Check out the photos below! And stay tuned—the full discussion will be available soon on YouTube. #FutureFrontiers #DataLeadership #Analytics #BI #CDO #Datalogz Tina Bhatia David Troll Jillian Burns Pablo Lerdo de Tejada Margaret Roth Stephen Babcock

I attended a great panel last night (A chat with JoAnn Stonier and Guy Lehman hosted by Logan Havern and Datalogz). When the topic of AI inevitably came up, one comment that stood out from the panel was how in the past BI users would look at a single report that was carefully created by an analytics team. Now, that same user, enabled with AI, can execute hundreds of bespoke queries to help them answer questions. All companies and teams should strive to dig into their data to better understand it. But it’s essential that you have a good data model in place prior to using these tools. Sure, you can have your petabytes of data and make it queryable, but no one wants to wait 10 minutes for a report, and you definitely don’t want that query to cost hundreds of dollars. To take advantage of AI, you need to invest in proper data modeling first. Understand your workloads, understand your data, and put them together to make it both accessible and cheap. Both your users and your finance team will thank you.

It was great to participate in last night's #FutureFrontiers series, hosted by Datalogz alongside my friend Guy Lehman. The discussion really honed in on #datapractices, ways for #CDOs to succeed and how to implement #GenAI in a world that is rapidly changing. Thank you to Tina Bhatia and Logan Havern for organizing.

Those who worked with me on the Air Force’s first-ever SECAF review of all of our big data platforms back in 2020 saw firsthand the challenges that government organizations (like many commercial organizations) face with data analytics. Things like duplication, unused products, and costs that just keep climbing — the type of things that make our work more difficult. Part of the reason I was drawn to Datalogz is that it's a solution that can actually make a difference. Datalogz already helps Fortune 50 and Fortune 500 companies optimize their BI and analytics products, giving them a clear, centralized view of what's going on and uncovering hidden insights. Let's bring this to the DoD! We can finally take control of costs, make operations more efficient, and enforce critical governance standards. We do this in the data warehouse, but the analytics layer in many cases is still the Wild West. Datalogz Control Tower is a real game-changer, and I'm convinced it can help the DoD, the Air Force, the Navy, the Army, and other government agencies make better use of their data. This isn't just about better data management; it's about ensuring our warfighters have the best possible tools and insights to make critical decisions. It's about responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars. It's about a more effective and efficient government for our nation. It's about helping DOGE tackle the right DoD waste. As a CDO, how do you articulate the value of data and analytics to the business? Don’t think linear, think exponential, says Xingchu Liu, Ph.D.. As an analytics leader with experience across pharmaceuticals and retail, Liu has seen the conundrum executives face: a data program is set up to make a continuous impact over years, but the C-suite and the board is asking for results, in dollar terms, today. At a recent Datalogz Future Frontiers event, Liu offered a framework to think about showing the return on the investment in data and analytics: ✅ Think beyond finance. Don’t measure value only in dollars. Speed, reliability, accuracy, and productivity all matter. What is the full scope of the program? ✅ Think exponential, not linear. The investment you make today may not have an immediate impact tomorrow. But once the full benefit is unleashed, it will continue to deliver — and build on itself — over time, and across departments. In the end, a patient commitment is required to maximize return. That means laying the right foundation, and continuously making improvements over time. The result is a data and analytics function that enables the entire business, not just a single department. #Data #BusinessIntelligence #Analytics
