For Jeffrey Green, MD, cardiac care has undergone an evolution over the past 20 years that's changed the very makeup of the #cardiology patient base. "When I first started practicing, 80% of patients that we saw in cardiology were people who came to us after a cardiac event," Dr. Green told us in our latest Zoom conversation. "Only about 20% was preventive. Now, it's probably reverse." With a high volume of patients seeking preventive care, documentation had become a challenge for Dr. Green at his practice, The Heart Center in Stamford, Connecticut - not just to capture comprehensive health histories, but for coding and regulatory requirements. For some time, value-based care has been the way forward toward achieving the triple aim of healthcare. But it's also a burdensome administrative challenge. Great article in MedCity News today from Lalan Wilfong, M.D., an oncologist / hematologist at Texas Oncology, about the difficulties in setting up, managing, and scaling a value-based care initiative. In talking about how to expand value-based care via "third party enablers", Dr. Wilfong caught our eye (as well as mentioning DeepScribe partner CardioOne): "Third party enablers provide data analytics and other technology solutions to streamline the operational complexities of VBC, taking the responsibility to develop such tools off payers and providers’ plates." Spent some time this afternoon chatting with Jeffrey Green, MD, cardiologist-owner of The Heart Center in Connecticut. 🫀 His thoughts on the patient's perspective when #ambientAI is in use were particularly interesting: "Even if I sit with the patient for five minutes, to them it might feel like we were talking for 45 minutes, because it was my full attention. I think for cardiology - or any practice really - that's what you want your patient to feel like. "Are they willing to really invest the time to go provider to provider and implement these solutions?" That's a question posed by our CEO and Co-founder Matthew Ko during a panel discussion with leaders from across the ambient AI category, at the 2024 KLAS Research Revenue Cycle Summit. In this case, "they" in Matt's question is any ambient AI vendor. The panel considered the role that revenue cycle leaders play in evaluating and selecting ambient speech technology, with key advice on what to look for from vendors. Some points from Matt: 💡 If you want to gauge the effectiveness of an ambient AI solution, check their clinician adoption rate at other organizations. 💡 A typical adoption will plateau at around 30-40%. One of the most important levers for widespread adoption is giving healthcare groups the ability to customize the model at the provider level. 💡 Understand the change management process an AI vendor has in place - and is willing to undertake - and their level of physician trust.
