An early victory for the DTRA Cooperative Threat Reduction program, Project Sapphire secured half a ton of nuclear material and demonstrated the strong relationship between Kazakhstan, United States Department of Defense (DoD), National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), and U.S. Department of State - Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation. The United States proudly supports Kazakhstan’s continued nonproliferation leadership today:

#DTRA supported a multilateral workshop with over 64 civilian, law enforcement, and military leaders along with U.S. Department of State in Thailand in our continuous and proactive engagements to help build the collaborative partnerships necessary to prevent and deter global WMD threats in Southeast Asia.

The Chemical and Biological Defense Program and U.S. Indo-Pacific Command kicked off the Beholders Gaze 2024 (BG24) experiment in the INDOPACOM theatre. BG24 allowed US Joint Force members to experiment with combining innovative technologies to achieve early warning of chemical and biological threats in operationally relevant scenarios.

Joint Force Special Operations Component Commander Brigadier Kidd and Director of the United States Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) Ms Rebecca Hersman laid a wreath at the Australian War Memorial as part of a visit to Australia in October 24.

Hotchkiss serves as the Science Policy Adviser at the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). In this capacity, he contributes to the OPCW's efforts to monitor scientific and technological developments and assess their potential implications for the Chemical Weapons Convention and the OPCW's mandate. DTRA Outreach participated in the 2024 Career and College Fair hosted by Suitland High School Navy JROTC. Schools from throughout the DMV attended the event to learn about STEM career fields in the Federal Government. 

The need to quickly detect and identify chemical threats it is crucial! This is why the #DTRAJSTO has invested in an effort with American Institute for Manufacturing Photonics at the SUNY Polytechnic Institute, the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, the U.S. Army DEVCOM Army Research Laboratory Combat Capabilities Development Command–Chemical and Biological Center, the U.S. Army Research Laboratory, and the University of Rochester to develop this next generation of highly sensitive and selective chemical agent sensors based on photonics.
