Recently Department 13 participated in a multi-layered counter-UAS (C-UAS) demonstration to the Australian Defence Force. A key aspect was to showcase Department 13’s non-jamming RF protocol manipulator, DART, supporting complimentary C-UAS and C2 systems, delivering a combined C-UAS effect to the war fighter. DART played a pivotal role in early warning detection, tracking and mitigation of drone threats entering the target area. DART’s inclusion enhanced the multi-layered system by interdicting the flight and enabling an Australian kinetic effector to destroy the threat drone.   Department 13 continues to work within multi-layered systems to offer the best overall capability to our ADF. Footage showing a drone flying over, landing on, and filming key Royal Australian Navy vessels and personnel at HMAS Kuttabul, Sydney highlights the extreme vulnerability that these highly available and simple to use asymmetric platforms have at Defence establishments. Despite a range of Australian industry options, at present there is very little in the way of monitoring and protecting these billion-dollar assets from espionage or malicious intent.   Unfortunately, this isn’t the first incident of drone activity operating unchecked at HMAS Kuttabul this year. The Defence Estate can easily access these capabilities today to help protect Australia’s strategic assets and rebalance the scales against the prevalent threat. Proactively, Department 13 provides coverage to key Defence sites across Sydney harbour and key sites nationally with further expansion planned for 2025.
