I recently wrapped up an amazing course by Dan Mall and the brilliant team at Design System University, and as a self-proclaimed design system aficionado, it was a real game-changer! Here are some key takeaways I’m excited to share: ✅ A design system only works when all its patterns are seamlessly connected—think of them as gears in a well-oiled machine. ✅ Building a design system team is no different from any other project. After all, a design system is essentially a product. ✅ Creating a successful design system requires time, effort, and buy-in from design teams. This course taught me how to start small, map out a clear roadmap, and effectively demonstrate value to stakeholders. ✅ I also learned how to leverage OKRs to measure the success and impact of a design system once it’s implemented. I’m happy to share that I just finished the "Make Design Systems People Want to Use" course by Design System University! 🎉 A big thanks to my mentor, Nashmil M., for telling me about this course. It was such a great experience, and I learned a lot about how design systems can help both designers and developers work better together. One part that really stood out was how they compared a design system to Andy's Brick Shop 🧱—it made everything feel so clear and practical, like something you could actually touch and use. Here are four things I learned: 1️⃣ A good design system connects everything and makes it easier for the whole team to work together. 2️⃣ Starting with small steps, like testing with one project, makes it easier to build something that works. 3️⃣ Teamwork is super important—when everyone works together, the results are much better. 4️⃣ If you want to make something useful, you need to understand what people really need and why. I’m really excited to use what I learned in my future work!
