A good day in the #Westminster sunshine, talking to MPs about how we can ensure every child with #SEND gets the best start in life. Dingley's Promise are encouraged by the Government's clear recognition of the importance of #earlyyears in life outcomes. We hope there will be more detail soon on how much of the £1 billion of the new funding for the SEND system will be allocated to this critical stage of a child's life. Thank you to Peter Swallow and Luke Murphy who are committed to championing children and families.

The newly published EPI annual report states that pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) are some of the most educationally disadvantaged in the English state school system. https://buff.ly/3Y56Usw ‘We are very concerned - but not surprised - to see that the gap for children with SEND in reception is the widest it has ever been. There is a significant lack of funding and support for children with SEND in the early years, and settings are struggling to meet needs. Dingley’s Promise found that one in five families of children with SEND experienced being turned away by settings, and only 6% of local authority areas believe they have enough places for children with SEND in the early years. With these major issues, it is no surprise that the gap is widening for our most vulnerable children, and we urge the new Government to focus on the early years to give children with SEND the best start, and take the pressure off families.’ Catherine McLeod - CEO Dingley's Promise

We are delighted to share the Coram Family and Childcare Manifesto, which has clear recommendations for improved access to places for children with SEND, in light of what they term the ‘inclusion crisis’ in early years. In line with our Dingley’s Promise Manifesto, they focus on the need to simplify and increase SEND funding to support settings to be inclusive. We look forward to continuing to work with our partners to increase the pressure on decision makers to address these critical issues and ensure children with SEND are able to access their early years entitlements as much as other children do.
