💡 As 2025 approaches, key economic development incentives like New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC) and Opportunity Zones remain in focus. And, as Dinsmore corporate attorneys Martiné ("Marty") Dunn and Cedric Burnett II write in an article for the Cincinnati Business Courier, the two initiatives could continue to be a path forward for underserved areas. NMTC, which celebrates its 25th anniversary, has channeled $76 billion into projects benefiting low-income communities, yet its future depends on Congress extending or making the program permanent. Similarly, Opportunity Zones, introduced in 2017, offer tax benefits for long-term investments in distressed areas, with recent legislative efforts aiming to enhance the program. These incentives, supported across party lines, continue to drive private investment and community revitalization, but their duration remains uncertain with potential sunsets pending. Each year, Dinsmore makes a donation to a charity on behalf of the Firm’s Difference Maker Award recipient, which is given at Dinsmore’s annual attorney conference. As this year’s recipient, Jonathon "Yogi" Snider of our Indianapolis office, chose the Judges and Lawyers Assistance Program (JLAP) Treatment Fund of the Indiana Bar Foundation to receive the donation. The JLAP Fund provides financial assistance to those in the legal community who cannot afford treatment, medication or other services. All donations go directly to treatment costs. The fund provides confidential services to judges, attorneys, law students and bar applicants experiencing any issues that impact quality of life or the ability to practice in a competent and professional manner. Pictured with Yogi are Charles Dunlap, the President and CEO of the Indiana Bar Foundation, and Ann Carol Nash, of the JLAP Committee.

The attorneys and business professionals in Dinsmore’s Lexington office visited the Bob Brown House for their Dinsmore Day of Service project. For more than 50 years, the organization has worked to provide an independent living experience for low income physically and mentally challenged men and women. Rents are based on income as most residents could not afford to live in traditional housing or other homes that meet their needs. Our volunteers spent an afternoon helping spruce up and clean the office and living spaces for residents to enjoy.
