Earlier today, #Meta experienced a major outage in the United States, impacting #Facebook, #Instagram, and #WhatsApp, generating over 800k reports through Downdetector. The outage peaked between 10:00-10:15AM PST, with nearly 100k reports for Facebook alone during those 15 minutes. As of 2:25PM, Meta posted that over 99% of services have been restored.

Late last night, thousands of users reported issues with #Google services (Search, YouTube, and DNS) as well as #Discord. By analyzing Downdetector data, we identified a correlation: the affected users were primarily Comcast/Xfinity customers in the Pacific Northwest. Although the outage was resolved quickly, this incident highlights how Downdetector data can uncover connections between impacted services and pinpoint regional disruptions.

As 2024 winds down, we took a look back at the largest outages from Q1–Q3, both globally and by region. The #Facebook outage in March topped the list, generating over 11.1 million reports on Downdetector. This same outage also impacted #Instagram, which saw 3.3 million reports on the same day.
