"I was a civil engineer for a major oil and gas company. Originally from Costa Rica, I am now retired and live in Nicaragua. The last time the government changed, things got bad. There's a lot of antisemitism there. They took my assets and bank accounts and imprisoned me for a year because I'm Jewish. I have diabetes and didn’t get proper care in prison, leading to an infection that cost me my leg. Recently, my prosthetic leg started falling apart, and I needed medical help. I flew to Broward for treatment and planned to return home with the money from my next Social Security check. But there was a mistake, and it would take weeks to fix. Goodman JFS stepped in. They got me a Lyft ride to a motel, a Publix gift card for food and a bus pass. They even arranged and paid for my flight back home. After landing in Costa Rica, I called to let them know I arrived safely. The support I received from Goodman JFS in those 48 hours was nothing short of a miracle." #OurImpact #SuccessStory #DoingGOOD #Resilience #BrowardCounty #CommunitySupport

🌟 Volunteer Spotlight: Teens 4 RAK PAK 🌟 "Co-founding Teens 4 RAK PAK (T4RP) is incredibly meaningful to us because it allows us to make a real difference in the lives of those less fortunate. As high school students, we support the RAK PAK Clothing Closet of Goodman JFS, a program that relies on donations to provide at-risk families with essential items like clothing and hygiene products. Our journey started when a woman named Mary came in with her three children, in desperate need of clothes. We spent the next hour selecting outfits for her kids, and with the help of our moms, Mary found clothes for herself. She left with five outfits for each family member. Her words of gratitude were touching, but it was her smile that left the biggest impression on us. This experience inspired us to create T4RP and continue making an impact through simple acts of kindness. In our first year, T4RP organized three major events, each with a donation drive. The September Toiletry Drive resulted in 200 kits (100 travel size and 100 full size), with 25 teens participating. Our December Give Back Event generated over 50 bags of new and gently used clothing, along with 128 brand-new toys for children who might not have received gifts otherwise. During our Spring-Cleaning Event in March, we re-organized the clothing racks to streamline the shopping experience for families in need. That day, we also proudly delivered 760 pairs of new underwear and socks. Now in our second year, T4RP has expanded to four high schools, and our Instagram account (@teens4rakpak) continues to gain new followers. We still volunteer at the RAK PAK Clothing Closet and assist people like Mary, while repeating our annual events and donation drives. Our senior members are also focused on recruiting and mentoring underclassmen to ensure that T4RP’s impact and legacy continue to grow for years to come." We are incredibly grateful to these amazing teens for their dedication and hard work. Their compassion and commitment inspire their peers and make a profound impact on our community. Thank you, T4RP, for all you do! 💙 Co-founders: Cayla Backman Logan Backman Daniel Rosenthal Ellie Street Ethan Street
