🌟 Donor Spotlight: Meet Ben Friedberg 🌟 "When my friends introduced me to Goodman JFS and told me about the impact of the Dorit & Ben J. Genet Cupboard, I knew I had to see it firsthand. Walking into the warehouse, I was struck by the care and dedication of the volunteers—many of them young—packing groceries with purpose. But the moment that truly stayed with me was delivering groceries to an elderly Holocaust survivor. Her apartment was small, her body frail, yet her gratitude was immense. She blessed us as we left, and in that moment I realized how even a simple act, such as delivering food, can profoundly impact someone’s life. A Rabbi once told me that true tzedakah isn’t just about donating but about physically engaging in the mitzvah. Seeing young volunteers dedicate their Sunday mornings to packing and delivering food was eye-opening. They may not realize it yet, but their efforts are making an incredible difference. If more people saw this work in action, they would be inspired to support Goodman JFS just as I was. I know my contributions are helping feed those who struggle to afford basic necessities. I’ve been fortunate never to experience food insecurity, and I believe it's essential to give back to those who do. Supporting Goodman JFS ensures that no one in our community goes hungry." 🙏 A heartfelt thank you to Ben for his generosity and commitment to our mission. His story is a powerful reminder of how one act of kindness can change lives. We are so grateful to the 100+ incredible women who joined us last night for Cracks & Cards: An Evening of Mahjong & Canasta! 🀄🃏 With your support, we collected 440 pounds of food and numerous clothing donations to help families in need through our Dorit & Ben J. Genet Cupboard and RAK PAK Clothing Closet. This event was more than just a night of games—it was a testament to the power of community and generosity. A special thank you to our dedicated event co-chairs—Randi Grant, Marcy Hoffman, Karen Dennis and Barbara Goldberg—for their leadership in making this event possible. We are also deeply grateful to our Goodman JFS Board of Directors for their continued support in strengthening our community. This event would not have been possible without the generosity of our amazing sponsors—thank you for your support and commitment to making a difference! We are thankful for every participant, donor and supporter who made a real impact. Together, we are ensuring no one in our community faces hardship alone. #CommunityImpact #GameNightForGood #GivingBack #SupportLocalCharity #TogetherWeThrive

"I never thought I’d be in this situation. At 53, I was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer and a cancerous lesion on my brain. Between chemotherapy and radiation multiple times a week, I was too sick to work. I applied for disability but it could take months to get approved and I'd already been denied twice. I lost my job, and my savings were disappearing fast. I don’t have family or close friends to lean on, and I was falling behind on everything... rent, electricity, even groceries. My power was shut off twice and I was scared I’d lose my home next. That’s when I found Goodman JFS. They stepped in and helped with my rent so I wouldn’t be evicted. They gave me grocery gift cards so I could get food and shared other resources to help me through this time while I navigate the process of getting approved for disability and food stamps so I can stay on my feet moving forward. Thanks to their support, I have a little breathing room. Now, I can focus on my health while I work toward getting the benefits I need to sustain myself. I don’t know what I would’ve done without them." 💙 #SuccessStory #Impact #MakingADifference #CommunitySupport #BrowardCounty #DoingGOOD

Collaboration, creativity and skill-building came together during a recent Joshua's Path Disability Services BOOST program visit to JAFCO. Participants engaged in the WILD Flower initiative, creating floral arrangements from recycled materials while gaining valuable hands-on experience in customer service, budgeting and inventory management. Experiences like these provide a unique way to reinforce independence and workplace skills in a supportive environment. It’s always inspiring to see how meaningful projects help individuals grow, connect and prepare for future opportunities. Grateful for our partnership with JAFCO and for the chance to take part in this incredible initiative! #NeurodiversityInTheWorkplace #InclusionMatters #LifeSkills #Empowerment #CommunityEngagement

Today, we had the opportunity to present at the Multi-Agency Homeless Taskforce training at Broward College, speaking alongside law enforcement professionals dedicated to addressing homelessness in our community. Our discussion focused on Jewish homelessness prevention and the broader wraparound services Goodman JFS provides to individuals in need. With police officers and task force members from across Florida, and even South Carolina, this training brings together agencies working toward real solutions. By collaborating with law enforcement and community partners, we strengthen the safety net for those facing homelessness, ensuring they receive the support and resources they deserve. #CommunityPartners #HomelessnessPrevention #SocialServices
