About us
Dream Flights is a nonprofit dedicated to honoring the service, sacrifice and stories of America's senior veterans by providing them with a life-changing experience: an open-air flight in the cockpit of one of Dream Flights’ fleet of fully restored WWII-era Stearman biplanes. From its founding in 2011 to today, the organization has honored nearly 6,500 veterans and seniors with free Dream Flights. Each is made possible through the generous donations of corporate sponsors including Sport Clips, Veterans United Home Loans, American Airlines, Allied Pilots Association, Discovery Senior Living, American Healthcare Association/National Center for Assisted Living, Argentum, and individuals and businesses from across the country. The flights are piloted by professional, volunteer pilots, many of whom are retired military aviators. In 2021, Dream Flights completed a 61-day, 49-state mission called Operation September Freedom to honor 891 members of the ‘greatest generation’ for their service and sacrifice. According to Dream Flights' founder Darryl Fisher, this historic tour was our nation’s last opportunity to actively recognize and honor the men and women whose sacrifice led to the Sept. 2, 1945 signing of the Japanese Instrument of Surrender, which effectively ended WWII. Last week a select group of our Utah residents were given the opportunity to participate in a once in a lifetime adventure with Dream Flights! Dream Flights is an organization dedicated to honoring military veterans and seniors by offering a flight in a Boeing Stearman biplane. Teresa Coons, the daughter of one of our Holladay, Utah veterans said: “This is an amazing organization that honors our veterans and seniors. Everyone was so kind and caring and respectful to my father and thanked him for his service. It was an unforgettable experience for my father. He can’t stop talking about it. He feels very grateful and honored that he was able to do this.” Teresa’s father, Bruce Schow, served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. She says airplanes have always been a part of his life, from building paper and balsa wood airplanes as a young boy, to making larger radio controlled planes as a young father, and finally volunteering at the Hill Air Force Base Museum after he retired. “He is very passionate and knowledgeable about airplanes. He can tell you anything you want to know… I don’t have words enough to express our gratitude for ‘Dream Flights’ who thanks and honors our great veterans who did something extraordinary by serving our great country. They are all heroes.” While we wish we could have included each and every one of our veterans, we are truly grateful for the opportunity we had to share this special occasion with eight of our distinguished participants. A heartfelt thank you to Dream Flights for making this extraordinary experience a reality. Your generosity and commitment to our veterans are deeply appreciated.
