October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about the impact of domestic violence and support those affected by it. Domestic violence affects individuals from all walks of life, and it is crucial to know that resources are available to help. In the fiscal year 2023-2024, 63% of the cases handled by DuPage Legal Aid were related to domestic violence, highlighting the ongoing need for comprehensive legal support in our community. Our dedicated attorneys and volunteers work tirelessly to protect and empower survivors, offering guidance through the legal system. For those in DuPage County, here are some local resources that provide support and assistance outside of our program: Family Shelter Service of Metropolitan Family Services DuPage: They offer crisis intervention, counseling, legal advocacy, and shelter services. If you or someone you know is in need, their 24/7 hotline is available at (630) 469-5650. National Domestic Violence Hotline: For immediate support, the national hotline is available 24/7 at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233). Let’s come together this October to raise awareness, offer support, and make it known that help is available to those who need it.
