Creating a Vibrant Community Through the Arts

About us

The Durham Arts Council's mission is to promote excellence in and access to the creation, experience, and active support of the arts for all people in our community. As one of the oldest arts councils in the country the Durham Arts Council fills not one, but three major goals: Community Access to the Arts DAC manages and operates the city-owned Durham Arts Council Building in historic downtown Durham. Our facility is the third largest visitor attraction in downtown Durham serving nearly 300,000 visitors each year, and is an extraordinary community resource for the City and the entire Triangle Region. Community Funding and Support to the Arts The Durham Arts Council is a significant source and key service provider for the arts and cultural community in Durham and the Triangle Region. DAC raises funds for it arts programs, services and the grants it makes to the arts organizations and artists through the DAC annual Arts Fund. Community Arts Education The Durham Arts Council's educational programs provide the community with year-round, high quality, accessible arts programs, services and information to the public and arts community.
