'Twas the Night Before Portfolio Review (A Wealth Management Rendition) 'Twas the night before year-end, and throughout the firm, Not a client was fretting, not even long-term. The ledgers were balanced, returns in good care, With hopes that compounding would grow wealth to spare. The clients were nestled, their goals in clear sight, While visions of retirements danced through the night. With me in my blazer, my briefcase in tow, I’d just settled accounts in the soft candle’s glow. When out on the charts there arose such a clatter, I sprang to the Bloomberg to see what’s the matter. Away to my dashboard, I flew like a flash, To analyze spreads and ensure there’s no crash. The market, aglow with a Santa Claus rally, Showed signs of resilience in every tally. When what to my seasoned eye should appear, But a sleigh of new clients, with goals crystal-clear. With a savvy old driver, so wise and astute, I knew in a moment it must be St. Route. More rapid than indexes his insights they came, And he whistled and shouted, and called trends by name: “On Growth Stocks! On Bonds! On Blue-Chip and Cash! On Index, on Dividend—reduce the tax clash! To the top of your goals! To the top of the charts! Now diversify, diversify, with heart!” As allocations are checked against risk appetite, When balanced and rebalanced, all turns out just right. So up the accounts, the goals they all flew, With a sleigh full of planning, and insights anew. And then, in a twinkling, I heard in the call, The laughter of clients—contentment for all. As I wrapped up my year-end, and turned back around, Through the door St. Route came with a bound. He was dressed in fine linen, bespoke and refined, And his spreadsheets were sharp, efficiency aligned. A bundle of charts he had flung on his back, And he looked like a pro with his financial stack. His eyes—how they twinkled! His logic, how sound! His forecasts were steady; his advice was profound. His droll little mouth spoke of goals and of rates, While the spreadsheets he carried showed no errors or fates. A wink of his eye and a twist of his head Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread. He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work, And filled every balance sheet, then turned with a smirk. And laying his pen aside of his pad, He gave me a nod—it was time to feel glad. He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle, And away they all flew like a fiscal year missile.
