We’re blooming with excitement to welcome our newest member to the Green Dining Alliance: Maypop Coffee & Garden Shop! 🌿☕🌸 Located in the heart of Webster Groves, Maypop is not just your neighborhood coffee spot – it’s a cozy cafe and a garden oasis in one! Whether you’re sipping on locally-sourced Blueprint Coffee, enjoying a local pastry, or picking out a pet-safe indoor plant, Maypop has sustainability at the root of everything they do. 💚 Here’s why we’re so excited to have them on board: 🌎 Sustainable treats & sips: They serve ice cream sandwiches from fellow GDA member Sugarwitch as well as local pastries from St. Louis favorites like plant-based SweetArt and Britt's Bakehouse, and their seasonal menu showcases the best of what’s fresh. 🌎 Green inside & out: From the cozy dining area filled with vintage finds to their vibrant garden center, every detail is intentional - including their plant selections, gardening tools, and native landscaping solutions. 🌎 Community love: Maypop hosts four annual vendor markets, supporting over 60 small local businesses, and their upcoming refillable mug program will help cut down on single-use waste AND save customers money. We’re thrilled to be a part of Maypop’s sustainability journey and can’t wait to help them blossom even further! 🌿💐

🌱 Big news, St. Louis! 🌱🍻 We are thrilled to welcome Civil Life Brewing Company to the Green Dining Alliance family! 🎉 This beloved South City brewery, known for its malt-forward beers and cozy English-style pub, has joined our mission to make dining in St. Louis more sustainable. Why Civil Life is a sustainability champion: 🥬 Sustainable sourcing: Their menu features locally sourced ingredients from Buttonwood Farms, Union Loafers, Eat Here STL, Fox River Dairy, Companion Bakery, and more. They’ve made the switch to compostable to-go ware and their chef Caitlin is spearheading a composting program to reduce kitchen waste even further. 🌞 Powered by the sun: With 125 solar panels on their roof, Civil Life generates about a third of their energy needs, significantly cutting their carbon footprint. 🌾 Low waste brewing: Spent grains are picked up weekly to feed local farm animals. 🌱 Community roots: Beautiful native plants flourish around the brewery, thanks to partnerships like their “Brews & Blooms” event promoting native landscaping. ♻️ Efficiency everywhere: From reinforced insulation to having EV charging stations and bike racks, Civil Life is creating a culture of sustainability from the ground up. With top scores in energy efficiency, food sourcing, waste reduction, and community engagement, it’s no surprise they earned a 5-star certification from the GDA. Stop by to enjoy their legendary Soup Sundays, savor their craft beers, and experience their warm, welcoming atmosphere. Cheers to a greener, tastier future with Civil Life Brewing! 💚

THE RESULTS ARE IN! ♻️🍎 A huge round of applause to all our STL Food Waste Challenge restaurant participants on a month of innovative, sustainable practices and taking food waste reduction to the next level: Olive + Oak, Sugarwitch , Flavor 360, Alpha Brewing Co, SqWires Restaurant and Market, and Panorama at St. Louis Art Museum 👏🏻👏🏼👏🏽👏🏾👏🏿 Their efforts have demonstrated the many ways the restaurant industry can prevent food waste AND save money in the process. We are so proud of what each of them have accomplished, and to share even more data with you all since our first ever Challenge last year. We couldn’t have done this without all the employees who learned new things along the way to support their restaurants’ goals. 💚 A major thank you to our sponsors for making this possible: ReFED, Toast, St. Louis-Jefferson County Solid Waste Management District, and Missouri Department of Natural Resources! The effort doesn’t end here - ALL the participants have signed up for our new Food Waste Champion Track, and we can’t wait to see the creative ways they continue to keep food out of the landfill!
