The Student Career Internship Program is a paid 11-week hands-on internship focused on career development for undergraduate, graduate students, and recent graduates. Current open positions include: 🗣️ Science Communication Intern: Assist with science writing, website and social media content, and potential visual/video projects to highlight EarthScope’s science-support activities. 📚 Educational Data and Resources Intern: Assist in data processing, data presentation, technical support documentation, and educational resources development. ☁️ Cloud OnRamp Intern: Work on advancing cloud integration for EarthScope researchers, with a focus on curating and enhancing domain-specific resources. 📊 Seismic Instrumentation Evaluation Intern: Help update software tools used for instrumentation evaluations, support the implementation of new evaluation methodologies, and streamline the evaluation process. 🗂️ Project Management Intern: Support EarthScope’s Project Management Office (PMO) by assisting in the planning, scheduling, and coordination of ongoing projects. ⚡ Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) Intern: Help unlock the potential of fiber optic sensing technology and engage in practical, real-world projects that involve data visualization and big data analysis.   • Watch the waves from the M7.1 earthquake in Tibet roll across seismic stations around the world. This animation, called a Ground Motion Visualization (GMV), shows the motion of the ground as detected on seismometers across the globe. Each dot is a seismic station, and when the ground moves up it turns red 🔴 and when it moves down it turns blue 🔵. Earthquake waves travel around and through the Earth. Once the earthquake waves are far enough away from the location where the earthquake occurred, they can no longer be felt by people, BUT they can still be detected by sensitive seismic instruments.   • Much of our knowledge of Earth’s insides comes from monitoring the thousands of earthquakes that occur every year. In the early 1900’s scientists discovered they could use data from earthquakes as method for looking deep beneath the surface. By understanding the travel times of different seismic waves to worldwide stations, scientists were able to calculate where boundaries occurred and what those boundaries represented.
