About us

COMMANDS aims to provide European ground forces with a system of systems capable of ensuring trusted and effective cooperation between different manned and unmanned assets. It will contribute to providing the EU Armed Forces with the best technologies to reduce operational risks and increase their information superiority in accordance with the highest ethical standards. The COMMANDS project was selected under the first call of the European Defence Fund (2021). It brings together 21 European entities (large-caps, mid-caps, SMEs and RTOs) from 10 EU Member States and has received official support from 7 Member States: Cyprus, Czech Republic, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Poland and Spain. The project will be implemented over 36 months, from December 2021 to December 2024.   • 🇪🇺 Meet COMMANDS partner: MASA Group (France) MASA Group is an SME specialized in the development of AI technology-based solutions for the modelling and simulation of autonomous and adaptative decisional behaviours of human, equipment and systems. Our primary product, the SWORD simulation, will be utilized in the COMMANDS project to support planning by introducing the first bases of an innovative wargaming tool based on simulation and artificial intelligence.   • 🚀 COMMANDS Project enters strategic preparations for pivotal final demonstration phase 📅 Last week the commands consortium met during its fourth general assembly, hosted by Cypriot partners: Vetronics Research Centre EU (Technical Coordinator), SignalGeneriX Ltd, Eight Bells Ltd, and SKYLD SECURITY AND DEFENCE LTD in Cyprus. As the project approaches its final phase, the groundwork laid during this assembly underscores the consortium's commitment to delivering results. The testing and demonstration phase will validate COMMANDS' potential to transform operational effectiveness. 💬 « As the years pass by, manned-unmanned teaming, UxV utilization, information superiority, cybersecurity and other critical capabilities will drive the future defence activities, and we are proud of COMMANDS addressing these needs. », Said Project Coordinator Łukasz Powęska representing Sener Aerospace & Defence. 🗣️ « The consortium as a team has worked very hard to address the COMMANDS Scope and over the past 6 months has progressed significantly learning a lot during the process », said the project Technical Coordinator Elias Stipidis, head of Vetronics Research Centre EU.     📅 On the 12th of November, our partners Eight Bells Ltd, SignalGeneriX Ltd, and SKYLD SECURITY AND DEFENCE LTD attended CYPSEC, the Cyprus Defence & Security Conference in Nicosia.   🤝 A valuable opportunity to unite and present the COMMANDS project to Cypriot defence and security authorities, including the Ministry of Defence, the Chief and senior officials of the National Guard, representatives of ministries and other Cypriot authorities, as well as representatives of EU member states, international organizations, and the global defence industry.   👥 The CYPSEC 2024 conference successfully brought together key defence and security stakeholders to discuss Cyprus's evolving role in regional security. With the participation of newly appointed defence leadership and the backdrop of a new bilateral cooperation roadmap with the U.S., the conference highlighted cutting-edge technologies in cyber defence, AI for unmanned systems, surveillance, and electronic warfare. These discussions addressed pressing security challenges in the Eastern Mediterranean and reinforced Cyprus's commitment to safeguarding stability in the region.   💬 At CYPSEC 2024, the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Anna Aristotelous, emphasized Cyprus's dedication to enhancing regional security and defense cooperation.   • 🇪🇺 Meet COMMANDS partner: SCERTAS GmbH (Germany) SCERTAS GmbH as one of the 21 Partners of the COMMANDS project is in the role of the Safety and Certification lead ensuring, that the activities performed by all partners of the COMMANDS consortium are directed towards designing and building a Demonstrator, that also addresses the relevant requirements In terms of certification In the disciplines of Safety, (Cyber-) Security, Usability and Ethics. SCERTAS GmbH participation in the COMMANDS Project is complementary to previous R&D projects and helps SCERTAS to create new cross-border cooperations. Apart from European Defence Fund projects, SCERTAS is specialized as an Independent Safety Assessment company, doing Safety Assessment for Munitions and Weapon Systems for national and multinational procurement agencies (e.g. OCCAR).   • 📅 On the 16-17 October 2024, Vojenský výzkumný ústav (VVU) participated in the FUTURE FORCES FORUM in Prague, Czech Republic. This exhibition was an excellent opportunity for our Czech partner to present the COMMANDS Project to a broad audience of industry leaders, government representatives, and defence experts.    🛡 The Future Forces Exhibition and Forum is a major defence and security event in the European defence calendar, where cutting-edge technologies and solutions are showcased. Attendees have the chance to explore innovations, engage in expert panels, and take part in high-level discussions that shape the future of the defence industry.   🤝 At this year’s edition, VVU in collaboration with the Defence and Security Industry Association of the Czech Republic (DSIA/AOBP) showcased the COMMANDS Project’s progress and its contributions towards strengthening the EU's defence capabilities.
