East Kootenay Division of Family Practice
Physicians
We empower & support East Kootenay family physicians as they work to optimize the health and wellness of patients.
About us
The East Kootenay Division of Family Practice represents family physicians in Cranbrook, Creston, Elkford, Fernie, Golden, Invermere, Kimberley and Sparwood. We're continuously working to recruit, support, and integrate new family physicians to East Kootenay communities. We're equally as focused on supporting current physicians by providing resources that help them to develop thriving practices. We work to find the best community fit for our physicians so they can find their niche, excel in areas that reflect their skills and interests, and feel happy, supported, and successful, while enjoying both their work and lifestyle. The EK Division is committed to listening to, learning from, and advocating on behalf of physicians. Our goal is to cultivate a collective of engaged, creative family physicians leading improvement and supporting each other. Together, along with our partners and led by the members, we are committed to better, more integrated, more effective primary care in the region.

The Shared Orthopedic Referral and Triage (SORT) Project has launched an exciting new video resource that regional physicians can access and share to empower and educate their OA patients. This comprehensive video series is the result of collaboration among animators, videographers, sports medicine specialists, family physicians, physiotherapists, kinesiologists, and orthopedic surgeons. It covers essential topics such as safe movement and osteoarthritis management strategies—from weight management and MSK injections to surgical options. Featuring expert insights from project lead Dr. Megan Ure, an EK Family Physician and Sports Medicine Specialist, Dr. Kate Vaile and Dr. Mike Kempston, Orthopedic Surgeons, the video underscores the importance of physiotherapy and includes a decision-making tool for patients. Additionally, kinesiologists from the Kootenay Therapy Center demonstrate key exercises for individuals with hip, knee, and shoulder concerns.
