  • When more than 50% of people with mental health disorders also have a chronic medical condition, why is only physical health treatment usually being considered? The comorbidities are often ignored due to silos in care and claims data, and very different reimbursement. This misalignment doesn’t just affect patient outcomes—it impacts health plan costs and value too. Proactively addressing mental health can lower ER visits, improve medication adherence, and boost more than just behavioral health HEDIS measures, but also those for chronic conditions. Integrating behavioral and physical health is not just good for patients—it’s a game-changer for providers, health plans, and taxpayers alike. What steps can your organization can take to better integrate care for the whole person? • For health outcomes to improve for all, healthcare leaders need to take action. For patients to feel heard, healthcare leaders need to listen. But what does it really mean to listen, and what does it mean to take action? • In America, more than 80% of deaths related to pregnancy are considered preventable. The top cause (nearly 1 in 4) is from mental health conditions. 1 in 5 pregnant patients report mistreatment during maternity care, and nearly 30% face discrimination. These troubling statistics disproportionately affect Black, multiracial, and Hispanic individuals. Often, bias in healthcare starts with labeling—whether a patient is deemed "non-compliant". For instance, a patient struggling with transportation might not be able to attend critical prenatal classes but is judged as non-compliant. And without supporing their mental health, the patient's ability to take on the huge changes in life is hindered. Addressing these gaps starts with acknowledging our own biases and recognizing that health is shaped not only by medical care but by the conditions in which people live. Technology can play a crucial role in reducing bias by identifying the touch points in patient interactions when providers can create more trust and less judgement. Emotivo’s technology supports this by analyzing patient-provider conversations, to identify gaps in social needs and improve culturally competent care. Rebekah Dailey, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, LSSGB thoughtful insights into this pressing issue highlight the importance of addressing these disparities head-on. By integrating tools like Emotivo, we can take meaningful steps toward more equitable, empathetic care for all patients. What are your thoughts on how healthcare can better address biases and support diverse communities? #emotivohealth #SDOH #MaternalHealth #HealthcareInnovation

  • Can you imagine providing an intense, emotion-filled 50-minute therapy session and then needing to spend 15 to 20 minutes documenting your services? And not being paid for it? And to do that for five to eight sessions every day? Mental health providers are essential to supporting individuals with psychological, emotional, and behavioral challenges, yet they face a significant burden with documentation. From session notes to treatment plans, insurance paperwork, and other administrative tasks, providers are spending hours each day on work that isn’t reimbursed. This unpaid work eats into personal time, contributes to burnout, and creates a sense of inequity in the profession. It’s clear that we need solutions. At Emotivo, we’re working on tools to reduce the time spent on these administrative tasks, so mental health providers can focus more on what they do best, caring for their patients. #emotivohealth #MentalHealthSupport #ClinicalDocumentation #MentalHealthProviders

  • Everyone has its own unique way of celebrating Thanksgiving—whether it’s a perfectly dry turkey attempted by a family member, or a vegetarian dish passed down for generations from another country. While traditions may differ, one thing connects us: the opportunity to pause and give thanks for who and what we have. Take a moment to reflect on honoring tradition and diversity in our experiences. It’s the beauty of these shared moments for listening and reconnecting that makes this season special. How are you giving thanks this holiday? Let's pause and spread that feeling with others. #Thanksgiving #Gratitude #Tradition #Community #Diversity

  • For millions of patients across the U.S., language barriers complicate healthcare experiences and outcomes. When patients struggle to communicate symptoms or comprehend medical advice due to language differences, the risks are high: missed symptoms, delayed diagnoses, low medication adherence, and less trust in the care system. Research indicates that language-concordant care—where patients and providers communicate effectively—can significantly improve health outcomes. Without it, vulnerable populations, particularly non-native speakers and multilingual communities, face challenges that often go unnoticed in clinical settings, from unvoiced concerns to untreated symptoms. For healthcare executives, addressing these barriers is not just an operational goal; it’s an ethical imperative. To provide inclusive care, the ability to integrate language-access solutions in all parts of the patient journey, and nourish multilingual healthcare teams are critical steps toward quality outcomes. Solutions designed to handle more than just English, analyze patient-provider communication, track rapport, and recognize social needs can be transformative, ensuring that patients are fully supported in expressing themselves. Investing in strategies to bridge these gaps reflects a commitment to a healthcare future that’s measurable and effective for all—where every patient feels seen, heard, and understood. As a founder, it's so important to have a supportive community who understands the ups and downs of that journey. The Company Ventures Boost Founder Fellowship made those ups happen through connections and partnerships that I had not even imagined. And Emotivo Health still continues to benefit from being part of this cohort and the New York City Economic Development Corporation founder fellows. If you're a founder that feels like you've been going at it alone, I highly recommend applying!

  • Did you know that where someone lives can sometimes predict their health outcomes more accurately than their genetics? A community's zip code can reveal insights into health that DNA alone can't capture. Data on social factors—like access to nutritious food, stable housing, and transportation—enables health plans to uncover opportunities for cost-effective, impactful interventions that truly matter. Take, for example, an initiative in rural Appalachia: an insurer funded school-based mental health programs. This strategic investment supported students, lifted the well-being of entire families, and even helped school staff, strengthening the resilience of the community as a whole. So, what’s your perspective? Do you think zip codes can have a stronger impact on health than genetics? We’d love to hear your insights in the comments!
