  • **Happy Holidays, Vet Med!** December is a month of celebration, reflection, and connection. Whether you’re lighting the menorah, trimming the tree, celebrating the solstice, or simply enjoying the sparkle of the season, this is a time to honor the traditions that bring us joy. ✨ For those of us in #veterinarymedicine, it can be easy to get caught up in the hustle, but this is your gentle reminder: you can’t pour from an empty cup. Take time to step away, even briefly, to recharge. Reflect on the year behind you—celebrate your wins, learn from the challenges, and set your sights on the year ahead. ✨ Let’s carry the spirit of care and compassion into 2025—starting with ourselves. Wishing you peace, love, and lots of furry cuddles this holiday season and we'll see you next year! ✨💚 🐾 ❤️✨

  • The veterinary profession is built on connection—connection to animals, clients, and colleagues. To truly care for others, we must first ensure that basic human rights are respected. 🌎 In honor of Universal Human Rights Month, let’s reflect on how these rights intersect with our profession: 💡 Equity in career advancement and education. 🛡️ Psychological safety in the workplace. 🌈 Embracing diverse identities and experiences. By championing these principles, we strengthen our profession and the communities we serve. Small actions lead to big impacts & together, we can make veterinary medicine an example of inclusion and fairness. As this month—and year—comes to a close, keep this in mind and take it with you into the New Year. Happy Human Rights Month & Happy Holidays! 🤎❤️🧡💛✨💚💙💜🖤 #HumanRights #VetMedCommunity #DiversityAndInclusion #DEIB #vetmed #veterinarymedicine #evtteam

  • 🌍 As veterinary professionals, we’re committed to compassionate care—but that compassion must extend beyond our patients to the people we work with and serve. Universal human rights are the foundation for equity, inclusion, and respect, values that resonate deeply in our profession. In our clinics and communities, this looks like: 🤝 Supporting diversity in veterinary teams. 🗣️ Practicing cultural humility with colleagues and clients. ⚖️ Advocating for fair wages and workplace conditions. By upholding human rights, we create environments where every individual—regardless of background—can thrive. Let’s build a more inclusive, equitable future for the veterinary field and beyond. 💙🐾 #VeterinaryLeadership #DEIB #EquityInVetMed #HumanRightsMonth #vetmed #evtteam

  • Let’s Talk About Awareness, Cultural Competence, Humility, and the Power of Apology... Hey, friends—this one might get a little uncomfortable, but it’s worth it. Diving into some truths about racial awareness, cultural competence, and why humility (and sometimes a heartfelt apology) can go a long way in creating spaces where everyone feels seen, respected, and valued. We’re all navigating a world where our unique backgrounds and identities shape how we show up—whether at work, in our communities, or even online. That’s beautiful. But it also means we’ll sometimes stumble, say the wrong thing, or realize (too late) that our words or actions didn’t land the way we intended. Been there. Still learning. 🔎 Awareness First things first: awareness is about noticing—really noticing. It’s understanding that our experiences aren’t universal and that we all carry biases (yes, all of us). The goal isn’t to feel guilty about them; it’s to recognize them and consciously choose actions that uplift instead of harm. 📚 Cultural Competence These are the skills that help us engage across differences. It’s about learning—not just the surface-level stuff like holidays or food but the deeper truths about history, systemic inequities, and how these things show up in daily life. Cultural competence helps us communicate with intention and act with empathy. 🤝Cultural Humility Now, here’s where humility steps in. Cultural competence alone won’t cut it if we assume we “know it all.” Humility reminds us that we’ll never fully understand someone else’s lived experience. Instead of assuming, we listen. Instead of reacting defensively, we reflect. Instead of centering ourselves, we amplify others. 😔 Apologizing When You Mess Up Let’s face it: we will mess up. What matters is what we do next. A meaningful apology isn’t about you—it’s about taking accountability and showing you’re committed to doing better. Skip the excuses. Avoid the dreaded “I’m sorry if ...” A better approach? “I’m sorry for [specific action]. I understand why it was hurtful, and I’ll work to ensure it doesn’t happen again.” TLDR: The Dos and Don’ts: DO educate yourself—this is YOUR responsibility, so read the books, listen to the podcasts, and have the conversations. DO approach with curiosity and humility. You’re not expected to know everything, but you are expected to learn. DO listen more than you speak, and prioritize perspectives different from your own. DON’T make it about you. Center the impact on the other person, not your intentions. DON’T shy away from tough conversations. Growth is uncomfortable, and that’s okay. DON’T let perfectionism paralyze you. Mistakes are inevitable; growth comes from what you do after. We must commit to showing up better—not just for ourselves but for the communities around us. Together, we CAN work toward a profession & larger community that feels more equitable, connected, and compassionate for everyone. ✨
