As Dell Technologies South Africa’s official PRO in the WEEEL space, we were in attendance at the Dell Technologies Forum 2024 last week - alongside distributors and key industry players as we delve into understanding the intersection of AI and sustainability. ERA had a bin presence at this event, with attending guests bringing in their e-waste to be recycled as they checked in. Earlier this month ERA ran the “7 Days of Eco-activism” initiative with industry events and engagements in the lead up to National E-waste Day. Featuring panel discussions and best practice conversations on tackling the e-waste challenge on both a global and local level. Our inaugural E-waste Awards Ceremony also showed recognition to producers and recyclers who have made strides in the area of EPR compliance. Special guests included Ms Bernice Swarts, the Deputy Minister for Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE); Pascal Leroy 🇪🇺🌍, Director General of WEEE Forum (for which ERA is a member); and Pasqual Zopp, the CEO of ERA’s Swiss partner SENS eRecycling. On 7 October 2024, at the conference of E-waste Recycling Authority (ERA) in Johannesburg - a WEEE Forum producer responsibility organisation in South Africa - the WEEE Forum was singled out for a Pioneers Award “in recognition of the unwavering support and guidance”. The award acknowledged the WEEE Forum’s role in providing global expertise and best practices, reinforcing ERANPC ’s credibility as a trusted PRO. The WEEE Forum will continue to support ERA in its mission for sustainable Extended Producer Responsibility in South Africa. Thank you for this recognition!

South African Businesses Urged to Enforce E-Waste Regulations - South Africa e-waste regulations, which aim to reduce electronic waste, came into effect on 4 November 2021. However, in a recent interview with CBN, E-waste Recycling Authority (ERA) CEO Ashley du Plooy highlighted that many businesses have yet to embrace the regulations fully.
