The European Energy Network published a booklet “Energy transition: 5 years to succeed” that outlines the progress made at the European Union level and the many challenges still to be met to achieve carbon neutrality. The publication highlights the important role of national energy agencies in supporting the implementation of the European Green Deal at the national level. The energy transition is eagerly awaited by the European citizens and Europe needs to provide ambitious, concrete solutions, without forgetting the importance of their implementation at the level of the territories, ensuring a just transition. The EnR Network shares this booklet with the newly elected members of the European Commission and the European Parliament, eager to continue working alongside these important stakeholders to inspire new ideas and support the implementation actions as closely as possible to the national territories. Thus, the “Energy transition: 5 years to succeed” also offers an overview of the of the EnR Network’s best practice database, with exemplary projects in key sectors of the economy (energy, buildings, transport, etc.) where major advances and changes are expected. Through this open database, the EnR Network shares the solutions that can be implemented to accelerate the energy transition in Europe and beyond. Last Week, EnR participated in the Mission Efficiency Charrette in Lisbon, organized by Mission Efficiency and hosted by ADENE - Agência para a Energia, with a pitch from the Chair of the Working Group on Behaviour Change Rebecca van Leeuwen. The event brought together energy efficiency experts, policymakers, civil society organizations, communications specialists, and behaviour experts, with the goal to leverage resources to shape a collaborative path for 2024-2025.
Last week, the Mission Efficiency Charrette in Lisbon, Portugal brought together country representatives from Denmark and the Netherlands, municipalities from Portugal, industry leaders, and energy efficiency experts. Hosted by ADENE - Agência para a Energia with facilitators and experts from CLASP, International Copper Association, ABB, E3G, European Energy Network (EnR), OECD - OCDE, Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), United for Efficiency, WWF, Earth Watchers, Coopérnico, Embassy of Denmark in Portugal and many others, we are developing an energy efficiency narrative to unlock its potential and ensure it is placed at the heart of the global climate and energy agenda. 💡🌍 Energy efficiency has the power to support electrification, fight energy poverty, reduce bills, and drastically lower emissions. An energy-efficient life is not only good for the planet 🌎; it’s also a happier life. So why isn't it front and center? Throughout the day, experts shared key insights from their work, including: - The NDC toolkit for appliances 🛠️ - Financing roadmaps for select countries 📊 - Best practices for behavior change 🌱 - Development of one-stop shops for energy efficiency 🏢 Despite the tools and the well-recognized benefits of energy efficiency, it often takes a backseat in national energy and climate planning. But what if we could change that? According to International Energy Agency (IEA) if we doubled our annual energy efficiency progress, we could: - Slash 7 Gt of CO2 emissions – that's 20% of current global emissions 🌍💨 - Cut energy bills in advanced economies by one-third 💸 - Create 4.5 million more jobs across industries like manufacturing, construction, and transport 👷♀️👷♂️ Learn more about Mission Efficiency 🚀💼 https://lnkd.in/eXTtpK_7

Recap: M75 Regular Meeting & BEHAVE Workshop | 📍 Lisbon On the 20th of June we had the pleasure of holding our M75 Regular Meeting in Lisbon. We are very grateful that ADENE offered to host us and welcomed us in their beautiful city. The meeting was a great success with EnR members from various countries joining us: ADEME, ADENE - Agência para a Energia, IDAE. Instituto para la Diversificación y Ahorro de la Energía, Energy Saving Trust, Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), Centre for Renewable Energy Sources and Saving (CRES), Magyar Energetikai és Közmű-szabályozási Hivatal (MEKH), ENEA, Lietuvos Energetikos Agentūra / Lithuanian Energy Agency,, The Energy and Water Agency, Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), Slovenská inovačná a energetická agentúra (SIEA), Deutsche Energie-Agentur GmbH (dena) and Sustainable Energy Development Agency (SEDA). We heard about initiatives from our member agencies, received updates from the many EnR Working Groups and received input from guest speakers. Their knowledge shared for example: the Korean Energy Agency Seong Woo Park, E-Nova Miguel de Castro Neto and Galp Ana Silveira. Anna Maria Poeck and Tina B. from dena moderated the meeting and looked back on a successful first half of the year as EnR president. dena will hand over the presidency at the end of June 2024. With over 20 participants in Lisbon and more members and guests online, we had a very enriching exchange. The 21st of June was entirely committed to #behaviouralchange. Rebecca van Leeuwen as WG behavioral change chair guided us through a whole day of inspiring input. We learned about the #just transition in a session moderated by Renee Schellekens with input from Dr Sea Rotmann and a panel discussion with Miguel Macias Sequeira (Universidade Nova de Lisboa), Manuel Casquiço (ADENE) Ruth Buggie (SEAI). The hot topic of #demandflexibility was moderated by Declan Meally (SEAI). After a scientific background from Marta Lopes (Politécnico de Coimbra) and an intro from Samuel Thomas (User-Centred Energy Systems TCP) and Jesper Åkesson (The Behaviouralist) who introduced their guidebook on demand flexibility, Ruth Buggie joined them for a lively panel discussion. The final session focused on promoting public acceptance of new technologies and was chaired by Adrianna Threpsiadi (EST). Ira Shefer, Dr., Nathália P. and Diana Süsser, Dr presented some examples of public acceptance projects and the final presentation was held by Mariagiovanna Gaglione (ENEA). 👋 Thank you for the numerous participations with around 200 guests online and on-site. Last but not least, a special thank you to all participants, speakers, WG chairs and ADENE colleagues involved in the event planning. Looking forward to the activities ahead in the European Energy Network.
