The EUVABECO project aims to equip EU Member States with implementation plans for innovative vaccination practices.
About us
The COVID-19 crisis reshaped global vaccination strategies, leading to the swift development of innovative practices. The EUVABECO (European Vaccination Beyond COVID-19) project, funded by the European Commission's EU4Health program, aims to equip European Union Member States with validated implementation plans for these practices, accommodating diverse contexts to enable cross-border deployment. It introduces five tools: a medical decision support system, a social screening tool for vaccine campaigns, an industrial electronic vaccine leaflet, a modeling and forecasting tool on infection dynamics, and a digital cross-border vaccination card. EUVABECO’s 14 partners will implement these tools, conducting twelve pilot projects in Belgium, Germany, Greece, Latvia, Luxembourg, Poland, and Portugal from September 2024 to August 2025. The initiative will validate the tools' effectiveness, transferability, and sustainability. Ultimately, validated plans will be shared with Member States to encourage widespread adoption. Implementation plans will include a workplan, comprehensive policy recommendations, tailored outbreak response plans, effectiveness criteria, and financial considerations for implementation.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the biggest challenges was the uncertainty around how well different measures – such as vaccination campaigns and lockdowns – would work. Policymakers had to make tough decisions without knowing exactly what the outcomes would be, which sometimes led to less-than-ideal results. To improve decision-making, some countries turned to mathematical models. ln Germany, Universität des Saarlandes, developed a “compartmental model” to predict how COVID-19 would spread and affect the population. As part of the EUVABECO project, this model is now being expanded to cover multiple infectious diseases. In collaboration with partners in Greece, Luxembourg, Poland, and Portugal, comprehensive implementation plans are being developed to guide countries in using these modelling tools. 🚀 Our first draft of the plans will be released in October 2024 – providing critical insights to help countries respond more effectively to future health crises. 🔗 Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/dvRxR_Sf #EUVABECO #PublicHealth #DiseaseModelling #Forecasting #InfectiousDiseases #GlobalHealth

Ensuring patients can make informed decisions and healthcare professionals can administer vaccines accurately is crucial. Delivering vaccine information in the patient's and health professional's language is a vital step in achieving this. Starting in October 2024, EUVABECO will pilot Electronic Patient Information Leaflets (ePIL) in Belgium, Germany, Greece, Latvia, and Portugal. The ePIL offers the same essential information as traditional paper leaflets but with significant advantages: - Real-time updates: Ensures patients and health professionals always have the latest information, unlike paper leaflets that can become outdated. - Efficiency: Reduces production time, simplifies logistics, and streamlines vaccine re-routing. - Space optimization: Minimizes packaging, freeing up refrigeration and storage capacity. Sustainability: Cuts down on paper use and energy consumption, enhancing environmental sustainability. 📢 Optimizing Vaccination Campaigns through Data Linkage 📊 As the COVID-19 pandemic intensified, Belgium took an innovative approach by linking databases from various sources at the individual level. This allowed for detailed analysis and personalized insights, enabling the identification and vaccination of high-priority groups, and effective monitoring of vaccination progress and effectiveness. Building on this success, EUVABECO’s partner Sciensano, the National Public Health Institute of Belgium, is collaborating with partners in Luxembourg, Poland, Greece, and Portugal to adapt this model to their national surveillance systems. Each country is tailoring their strategies to fit their unique healthcare infrastructures and needs, aiming for pilot implementation in September 2024. Through these pilots, EUVABECO is creating implementation plans that aim to enable broad adoption across all EU Member States. These will be released in 2026. 👀 Want to know more? 🌍 EUVABECO Consortium Update: A Milestone Meeting in Brussels 📅 This week, EUVABECO convened in Brussels, hosted by Sciensano, Belgium's national public health institute and key EUVABECO partner. This marked a crucial point in our journey since the consortium's launch in January 2024. 👥 The meeting brought together over 40 representatives from EUVABECO’s 14 partnering institutions across Europe, as well as four Expert Advisory Board members - one of whom traveled from the USA - and our Project Adviser from the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA). 🗣️ Beyond the formal agenda that addressed critical organizational and implementation topics, participants also took advantage of the opportunity for informal exchanges. ✨ These dynamic exchanges are instrumental as we move towards pilot project implementation. They not only deepen our collective insight into the challenges we face but also enhance our ability to collaboratively overcome them. #EUVABECO #vaccination #innovation #collaboration https://lnkd.in/d2cKWpuf
