Exciting News from Every Hour Counts! We’re thrilled to announce that our amazing Hikma Sherka is serving as the Youth Engagement Coordinator, Office of the Secretary at the U.S. Department of Education! In this national role, Hikma will lead efforts to enhance dialogue between the Department and youth across the country, coordinate cross-agency youth engagement, and support staff in creating meaningful strategies to uplift youth voices. This opportunity is a testament to her exceptional talent and passion for putting young people at the heart of systems design. We’re delighted that Hikma will be working closely with Shital C. Shah, Senior Advisor to the Secretary of Education, on this effort. Hikma is serving in this part-time role allowing her to continue working with Every Hour Counts, so we’ll still get to benefit from her brilliance as she takes on this impactful role. Congratulations, Hikma, on this well-deserved achievement! We are so proud of you and excited to cheer you on in this next chapter. 🎉

Last week, members of the Every Hour Counts network showcased their expertise and deep commitment to out-of-school time (OST) systems at the National Summer Learning Association Summit in Washington, D.C.! ✨ Our very own Jessica Donner led a panel alongside Beth Tomlinson from the City of Philadelphia, Samantha Weiss from Collective for Youth, Omaha, and Ann Durham from Providence After School Alliance to share how our network members are strengthening citywide OST systems through collaboration. 🎤 Marcus Pope of Youthprise delivered an inspiring TED-style talk on the Summer Innovation Stage, exploring how partnering with youth can drive impactful system change. 💡 Chris Smith from Boston After School & Beyond contributed to a session on science-backed strategies for fostering developmental resilience through summer learning. 🎉 We also hosted a networking session to celebrate ways OST system builders advance summer learning.
