I returned to Hong Kong two weeks ago, and this is a photo of me at a conference on US-China relations from earlier today. Many Western expats have left Hong Kong in the last five years as China’s economy has slowed down and political tensions between China and “the West” have increased. But China remains as complex as ever and still needs to be understood, something I’m passionate about. With moving to Hong Kong I hope to better understand China over time and, hopefully, make a tiny contribution towards helping “the West” better understand China and its role in, and impact on, the world.
