The EITI is the global standard for the good governance of oil, gas and mineral resources.
About us
We believe that a country’s natural resources belong to its citizens. Our mission is to promote understanding of natural resource management, strengthen public and corporate governance and provide the data to inform greater transparency and accountability in the extractives sector. By becoming members of the EITI, 55 countries have committed to disclose information along the extractive industry value chain – from how extraction rights are awarded, to how revenues make their way through the government and how they benefit the public. Through participation in the EITI, countries agree to a common set of rules governing what has to be disclosed and when – the EITI Standard. In each country that has joined the EITI, a multi-stakeholder group, composed of government, companies and civil society supports implementation of the EITI Standard.

Access to clear and reliable information on #oilandgas #contracts is essential for informed investment decisions and effective policies. Contract #transparency, in particular, helps manage risks, optimise benefits and align operations with countries' climate goals. Our latest policy brief identifies nine key provisions in petroleum contracts critical for risk mitigation during the #energytransition, and explains the benefits of disclosing these provisions. Across Latin America and the Caribbean, limited public trust and access to clear, timely information remain barriers to effective governance in the extractive sector. At a recent regional symposium in #PortofSpain 🇹🇹, co-organised by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and Trinidad and Tobago's Ministry of Energy & Energy Industries, stakeholders gathered to explore how #data and public dialogue can advance responsible natural resource governance in the #Caribbean, focusing on: 🔹 Leveraging digital tools and technology to make extractive data more accessible 🔹 Advancing contract #transparency and #beneficialownership disclosure 🔹 Supporting the #energytransition in Caribbean states 🔹 Promoting sustainability and inclusivity in mining The symposium highlighted how regional collaboration and innovative approaches can help advance natural resource governance across the Caribbean. 🌍 The world is undergoing an #energytransition, affecting resource-rich countries in notably different ways—from fossil fuel producers navigating declining demand to mineral producers scrambling to take advantage of a #transitionminerals boom. How can accountability actors use the 2023 #EITIStandard to help ensure this transition is just and equitable? A new guide by NRGI's Robert Pitman and Charlotte Boyer explores practical ways to harness EITI disclosures to support five key objectives: 1️⃣ Set objectives for transparency and multi-stakeholder dialogue on the energy transition 2️⃣ Scrutinse energy transition policies 3️⃣ Ensure revenue stability and anticipate public finance risks 4️⃣ Identify how climate considerations impact extractive projects 5️⃣ Manage corruption risks and protect community rights 📚 The guide includes practical examples and concrete actions for multi-stakeholder groups (MSGs), civil society and journalists to drive informed debate and decision-making during this critical period. Just completed a mission as EITI (Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative) Chair to #Kyrgyzstan 🇰🇬 following up on the country’s Validation against the #EITI Standard. The Kyrgyz Government is considering a critical minerals strategy. Good governance of the extractive sector will be critical for quality outcomes. We met #civilsociety, industry and government representatives. The most recent #EITI Validation of Kyrgyzstan ( https://lnkd.in/eGfEDzgS ) showed some regression. Our mission discussed with stakeholders the importance of transparency around #extractives licensing, contracts, beneficial ownership, & payments. We also raised civic space issues. The recent foreign agents law and actions taken against journalists and others standing for freedom of expression have caused considerable concern. EITI is a multi-stakeholder partnership in which the role of civil society is vital. https://lnkd.in/eSPVcdsn Mark Robinson Olesia Nekhoroshko (Нехорошко) Mamadou Bady Balde Joanne Jones Diana Kaissy
