The International Fact-Checking Network at the Poynter Institute has awarded grants to 20 projects across 19 countries to combat misinformation. Each project will receive up to $50,000 to implement innovative fact-checking initiatives. The International Fact-Checking Network at the Poynter Institute deplores a recent attack on a journalist with Faktograf - Association for the Informed Public in Croatia.  Faktograf's journalists should be free to publish their investigations and fact checks without threat of reprisal. IFCN is dedicated to supporting press freedom and fact-checkers globally.

The passage of a controversial law targeting organizations receiving foreign funding has Georgian fact-checkers concerned about the sustainability of their operations, the safety of their staff and families, and the erosion of democratic institutions. Democracy is resilient. Still, populism has emerged as a major threat, Harvard government professor Steven Levitsky warned fact-checkers on Friday at #GlobalFact11. “The world is still considerably more democratic than it was in the 1990s despite the rise of China, despite (Russian President Vladimir) Putin, despite Trump, despite social media, despite AI, despite COVID,” Levitsky said. “To me, that suggests a fair amount of democratic resilience.” Tap the link to read the story #factsmatter https://lnkd.in/eXy6AyB4
