What have you heard about allergic reactions? (I tried to summarize all you need to know) An allergy is an overreaction of the body's immune system to a normally harmless substance. When the immune system encounters the allergy-causing substance (allergen), it mistakenly identifies it as a threat and releases antibodies to attack it. People maybe allergenic to different things: → Mold → Latex → Pollen → Foods → Dust mites → Pet dander → Medications → Insect stings/bites These trigger the release of histamine and other chemicals that cause allergic symptoms. The very common allergic symptoms are ↳ Itchy Eye ↳ Rapid pulse ↳ Runny Nose ↳ Difficulty breathing ↳ Drop in blood pressure ↳ Rash on skin (where allergen made contact) We are able to investigate what you are allergic to in the laboratory once an allergy is suspected. PS: Have you experienced or seen someone with an allergy before? - tell me about it. ↳ I am Emele Arthur-Hayford and I empower you to take command of your heath. I managed to ask him that question on your mind. Health commanders, we have another important personality today. Let's have a conversation with Mr. Stomach Me: Hey stomach, what's up? I've been meaning to ask you something. Mr. Stomach: Well, well, What's on your mind? Me: I was wondering, why does too much pepper make me run to the bathroom? It's so uncomfortable! Mr. Stomach: Ah yes, you see, pepper contains a compound called capsaicin, which can be quite irritating to the lining of the digestive tract. When you consume too much of it, I get a bit flustered and try to expel the offending substance as quickly as possible. Hence, the sudden urgency to visit the porcelain throne. Me: I see, and what about spoiled food? Why does that make me have to use the washroom so frequently? Mr. Stomach: Spoiled food is a real nuisance, let me tell you. When food goes bad, it can harbor all sorts of harmful bacteria and toxins. I have to work overtime to try and flush it out before it can cause any serious trouble. It's my way of protecting you, even if it means some uncomfortable trips to the loo. Me: Oof, I appreciate you looking out for me, but it's still no fun. What should I do when I'm in that state of discomfort? Mr. Stomach: Well, my friend, the first thing you should do is listen to me. If I'm sending you urgent signals, it's best to heed them and head to the restroom. Trying to hold it in will only make things worse. Additionally, stay hydrated and consider taking some over-the-counter medication to help soothe the discomfort. And, of course, be more careful about what you put in me in the future! Me: Duly noted, stomach. Thanks for the advice, and sorry for putting you through so much trouble sometimes. Mr. Stomach: Don't worry about it, that's what I'm here for. Just try to take better care of me, and I'll keep taking care of you. Avoid too much pepper and ensure you don't consume food that has gone bad. PS: Can we appreciate the hard work of Mr. Stomach on the comment session. ↳ I am Emele Arthur-Hayford and I empower you to take command of your heath.
