With the doors soon to open on Day Two of Recycling Expo at Excel London it's a good moment to reflect on some of the themes from yesterday. The waste and recycling management landscape has evolved, and one of the significant risks to emerge is the disposal of lithium batteries. Their use is prolific, and they are getting smaller, and more powerful. They are increasingly responsible for causing fires in recycling facilities - they may have even started in the lorries before they reach the facility - and statistics are showing an upward trend. The use of fire detection and verification technology is critical. While it will not stop fires from 'starting', the early detection and swift action it enables will stop them in their tracks.
