About us
The Florence County Economic Development Partnership opened its doors on January 1, 1999. this private-public venture was conceived by Florence County Council and a private business organization known as Florence County Progress, Inc. this alliance is exemplified through the 30 member Partnership Board with members appoint by County Council and elected by members of Florence County Progress. Thus, both parties work as a team to enhance the county's economic development. the Partnership works to recruit new business and industry to the area while helping existing industry grow and expand. Florence County Progress, Inc. (Progress) is the private sector arm of the Florence County Economic Development Partnership (Partnership). Progress was created in the 1980's by business leaders throughout the county to provide private sector support and leadership to our publicly funded economic development program. Progress' mission is clear...to promote, implement, and support activities designed to improve the economic development of Florence County and to maintain a quality climate for business and industry. The Grant Transparency Act proposed by Congressman Russell Fry has passed the House. This bill aims to add further clarity to the grant selection process that agencies use, specifically that Notice of Funding Opportunities (NOFO) for competitive grants have: -A description of any rating system, evaluation, and selection criteria the agency uses to assess applications for the competitive grant -A statement of whether the agency uses a weighted scoring method and a description of any weighted scoring method the agency uses for the competitive grant, including the amount by which the agency weights each criterion -Any other qualitative or quantitative merit-based approach the agency uses to evaluate an application for the competitive grant Congressman Fry has made accessibility to grants a focus for constituents, and this is a massive help in making this process easier. The bill is now awaiting approval in the Senate.
