  • A great Year in Review from Ryan McPherson at Cedar - reflecting that access and affordability is top of mind for high-performing revenue cycle. We're proud to be supporting this vision as Cedar's Medicaid assistance partner 🤝

As far back as 2016, as a Revenue Cycle consultant, I discussed with healthcare leaders the growing need to rethink traditional approaches to patient financial management and adopt a more empathetic approach. Many #healthcareproviders have since made this a priority, but many challenges remain. Affordability challenges in particular have reached unprecedented levels, as evidenced by: 💵 40% of patient responsibility now coming from patients without coverage 📈 The average deductible has tripled 🤒 Nearly half of consumers report their healing suffers when struggling to pay medical bills I'm grateful 8 years later to be a part of Cedar. Cedar's mission—to empower us all to easily and affordably pursue the care we need—has never been more urgent. Looking forward, from new investments in GenerativeAI and an expanding partnerships ecosystem, we’re doubling down on tackling affordability at its core. Cedar's Year in Review and Vision Ahead report shows how we’re building healthcare’s first comprehensive affordability solution—so paying for care never compromises health. We had the privilege of sitting down with Kody Kinsley, outgoing Secretary of the NC Department of Health and Human Services. This Q&A reflects on the milestones achieved during his tenure from expanding Medicaid to an additional 600,000 North Carolinians to addressing rural health challenges by investing $835M in behavioral health and alleviating workforce shortages. The Q&A also covers what it takes to run a team that launches bold new Medicaid initiatives, while responding quickly and collaboratively to crises like Hurricane Helene. A huge thank you to Kody for sharing his time and insights. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/egupj7UC

In our latest Q&A, we spoke with Dr. Mike Van Scoy, who leads UPMC’s street medicine program. His team provides on-the-ground care to primarily unsheltered individuals. Addressing both medical and social needs, their approach has reduced ED visits, connected patients to community resources, and improved health outcomes among vulnerable populations. Dr. Mike’s street medicine program has expanded across western PA and includes innovative, compassionate programming like Street Feet (much-needed wound and podiatry care). Dr. Van Scoy discusses the evolution of the program with us, and how Pennsylvania’s Medicaid and health policies support street medicine work. Read more ➡️ https://lnkd.in/efKfjWte

Cydney Kim '13 and her Fortuna Health co-founders saw a healthcare accessibility issue impacting millions and devised a solution. In the U.S., 90 million low-income adults, children and people with disabilities are entitled to free health care coverage through Medicaid, but applying for and renewing coverage can be cumbersome with website navigation and long paper forms. Cydney joined forces with co-founders Nikita Singareddy and Benjamin Wesner to create Fortuna Health, a simple and easy consumer platform they refer to as "Turbotax for Medicaid," that helps people enroll and renew their coverage. Now she and her co-founders have made the Forbes 30 Under 30 in Healthcare list for their venture, for which they have raised $4.3 million in funding. We love to see our alumni out there living the UTS mission to make a difference in the world! https://lnkd.in/gcdfC5kY

We were lucky to spend time with Jolene Rebertus, Assistant Commissioner of Health, Recovery, and Programming for the Minnesota Department of Corrections. In this Q&A, we explore Jolene’s 15-year journey advancing health equity for justice-involved populations from the 1115 reentry waiver (helping people access Medicaid before release) to partnerships with the Department of Health and National Commission on Correctional Health Care. We also discussed results from Minnesota's Certified Peer Recovery Specialist program and harm reduction strategies, as people leaving correctional settings are 28x more likely to overdose than the general population.
