Gen Z is sick of being told they’re “lazy” and “entitled.” They’re upending how the workplace has run for decades under baby boomer leadership—and their elders could learn a thing or two. The newest cohort of workers grew up with the classic instructions of the American Dream: go to college, do unpaid internships, then catapult into a job with a living wage. But as college tuition has skyrocketed, household expenses are climbing, and many white-collar jobs are on the fritz, that dream is crushed. “[A] non-negotiable is I want to try to get at least seven hours of sleep." Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky rejects the notion that chief executives should forgo proper sleep in favor of productivity. “I know there are people that go off four, five, even six hours of sleep, but the extra hour you save by not sleeping probably makes every hour the next day a little less productive," he told Fortune. Chesky gave us exclusive look at his daily routine, which he admits kicks off “pretty late” for an entrepreneur. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eVkNUsJs
“There’s many things that I claim to know a lot about, and work-life balance is not one of them." Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky has achieved many things in his 43 years of life. To name a few: launching a Fortune 500 brand, graduating with a fine arts degree in industrial design, befriending a former U.S. president, and becoming a bodybuilder. Work-life balance, however, is a bit tricky. Chesky gave Fortune an exclusive look at his daily routine, which he admits kicks off “pretty late” for an entrepreneur. Unlike other billionaire families, Asia’s richest dynasty is letting its heirs decide their own paths to the C-suite. The Ambani empire is worth more than $90.5 billion, a fortune amassed courtesy of Reliance Industries, which owns the world’s largest oil refining complex. With three adult children—Akash, Isha, and Anant—now in prominent roles across the business, questions of succession in the multi-billion dollar empire are beginning to be asked. But the answers to which child would take which departments weren’t doled out by the current stewards of the empire—it has naturally come about as a result of the heirs’ interests and characters. The rapid advancement of AI is reshaping the skills current and future leaders need to succeed in C-suite roles. More than 82% of CEOs and senior leaders believe that AI will have an extreme or significant impact on their business, according to Korn Ferry. As AI-driven decision-making, automation, and data intelligence become integral to business strategy, executives must develop a deep understanding of AI’s capabilities, limitations, and ethical considerations. Beyond technical literacy, effective leadership in the AI era will require familiarity with seamlessly integrating AI into operations, innovation, and customer experiences. “There is no substitute for hands-on experience,” says Eric So, codirector of the AI Executive Academy and a professor at MIT Sloan School of Management. Larry Ellison thinks the U.S. and other countries should be using AI more, but first, governments need to unify the data they collect on citizens into one easily digestible database. Speaking with former U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair at the World Governments Summit in Dubai, the Oracle cofounder and executive chairman said that while government organizations collect massive amounts of data, it is highly fragmented, making it hard to feed it into an AI model.
