    After years of hard work, Ryan Hicks, CFE and I finally got to see the fruits of our labor (all thanks to the amazing Dana Farber) with the release of our first official newsletter. Between Modrn Business, Franchise YoungConference and Franchise Supplier Network; Ryan and I do a LOT together. Ever since it all started back in 2018, we've tried many times to sum up all that we do for you all to interact with. We tried spotlighting Modrn Business episodes on here and via a short-lived text club. We had two different email newsletters (based on audience) for Franchise Supplier Network. Franchisors.com, the home of Modrn Business and Franchise YoungConference, also had a brief attempt at a newsletter too. We couldn't quite put our finger on why, but none of it felt right. After a lot of soul-searching (Southeast Asia was a wonderful place to do it, thanks Brad and Sherri), I finally landed on what was missing: us. All of these attempts at thought leadership were us hiding behind something. Ryan and I wear a lot of hats, the franchise community shouldn't have to keep score of which one we're wearing at any given time! And with that, a newsletter from the hearts and souls of the men behind all of these companies took shape. With this new place for you to see our LinkedIn/X posts, podcasts, musings on high-profile news and announcements on events we're involved in; we're putting ourselves out there mentally and physically for all to see. Being vulnerable is scary as hell; especially when you want the words you're conveying to be perfect.     I probably don’t need to tell you this, but the pandemic changed everything in our beloved industry forever. Many of the business implications still aren’t known yet, but there are two that come to mind: home service brands became the darlings of franchising and private equity started to buy them in droves. Coincidence? Considering how low interest rates went and how long we were all stuck in our houses, likely not. Seeing this trend, Ryan Hicks, CFE and I knew that Franchise Supplier Network needed to find a partner that not only understood this reality, but would be willing to commit the same time to helping them that we did. Not long after, we met John Keene, Olivia DiGirolamo, CFE and the serviceminder team….and the rest was history. Like the many home service clients they work with, serviceminder got to experience unprecedented growth since 2020, with a private equity investment to follow in 2023. With new investors, the family grew, with some familiar faces (Diamantis (Dean) Hatzitheodosiou, CFE) and some new friends too (Berkley Simmons). The product roadmap got more ambitious and their presence became more consistent. And yet, the “nerdy” charm seemed to permeate despite the obvious success. No egos, just committment to making the home service space better, just as they were when I first met them. Today, I’m super excited to see Berkley Simmons taking the CEO mantle to usher serviceminder through their next stage of growth.
